  2. TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF INTERCONNECTION

  3. A user connected to the network of an alternative local loop operator at city 1 calls a user connected to fixed operator network at city 2 2 Example: Network of an alternative local loop operator at city 1 Interconnection point City 1 City 2

  4. Direct interconnection offer : call termination : 2 1 New New Operator Operator TS TS New 3 LS Operator 1 Single transit 2 Double transit 3 Intra Local Switching

  5. Indirect interconnection offer :call collection : 2 1 New New Operator Operator TS TS New 3 LS Operator 1 Single transit The customer dials a prefix 3 Intra local switch 2 No Double transit offer

  6. CARRIER SELECTION • What is the meaning of « carrier selection » ? • Carrier selection is a mechanism that permits customers, while subscribing to a specific local access network operator, to choose between telecommunications carriers for carrying part of their calls. • Call by call selection : the user has the possibility of choosing a carrier on a per-call basis while dialling. The choice is usually indicated by a carrier selection prefix dialled before the sequence of digits which is used to reach the called party without carrier selection. • Pre-selection : a carrier is used which the customer has chosen beforehand. The choice of this carrier applies to each following call and the carrier selection prefix is not needed.

  7. 1 3 A user connected to the fixed operator network at City 1 dials a prefix in order to call a user connected to the fixed operator network at city 2 Exemple: New operator Network of the selected operator Interconnection point at city 1 New operator The customer dials a prefix LS at City 2

  8. Number Portability (1) Before After Fixed operator switch Other operator Customer of the fixed operator Carried customer

  9. Number portability (2) • Local portability : the possibility to change the telecommunication operator with keeping the same phone number providing that the customer do not change its location. • The interconnection reference offer should include an offer allowing number portability. • Generalized portability : operators should have an offer allowing customers to keep the same number even if they change location (this require the determination of number reserved to this purpose)
