  3. Eyes on Tertiary education's Training Knowledge Experience Research Tools

  4. EYES on Service delivery • Patients • Staff • doctors • nurses • therapist • PIS • meditech

  5. EYES on research • Thinkers • Proven ideas • Pre- and post- graduate students • Availability to clinical data and statistics • Electronic data

  6. EYES on technology • Computers • Network • Software • Support

  7. EYES on data • Patient files • CEO • Economics • Data analysis • IT data analyst • Clinical data structuring • Creative data extraction • Adhoc queries

  8. Eyes on needs Standard Meditech system data Non-standard (customer defined) data Departmental module (DM) • Clinical Summaries • Diagnostic findings • Therapeutic summaries • Technologist summaries • Clinic Consultations summaries Linked with database capabilities Linked with ICD10 data section

  9. Eyes on structuring • Gather data • Extract data • Structural system design • The bigger picture MRI Patient’s age, and home town LAB / OE Test Results PHA medication DM Departmental Results Analysis

  10. Clinical examples

  11. Eyes on ideas • Post-grad • 2nd and 3rd years students • Research module includes a research project • Clinical Supervision • Starting point • Patient files • Post-grad (M.Med) • The research component of the M.Med. programme comprises two sections • Research Methodology and • Comprehensive Mini-dissertation (Research Report): • Detailed clinical study data • Logs

  12. Pre-grad: Paediatric example I am supervising a study group again and this time they would like to derive paediatric Asthma incidence / prevalence from script records for Asthma Medication... Would it be possible to get from Meditech prescription data for asthma meds over the last 5 years or so which would allow them to at least look at rates of prescription of Asthma meds in children? Is it possible to get Province wide data? My students need a listing of asthma medications, salbutamol and budesinide, for patients aged 6 to 16 years seen at Dr De Waal's (Paediatric Asthma Clinic) from 2008 to 2012. Is it possible to get regional and social economic data?

  13. Eyes on Asthma

  14. Eyes on PCI • EPR • Replace the patient’s paper file

  15. Post-grad: Urology example (special Studies) • Data screens are user defined

  16. Eyes on format • All data can be exported to Excel, etc. • Users can download data from menus • Data can be dates, lookups, numbers, y/n • First and follow-up data

  17. Eyes on complexity • Cross module reports • MRI contains demographic information • DM/LAB/PHA contains clinical data • A fragment NPR report • Link data between modules

  18. Eyes on experience • Registrars and Interns • Logs

  19. Education: Track experience

  20. Service delivery

  21. General departmental statistic

  22. Service delivery: Nuclear Medicine

  23. Coding screens – Dm & ADM • Important tool for hospital and departmental analysis • Use the same fields throughout all departments

  24. ICD10 example

  25. Advantages

  26. EYES on added value • Research • E-files • Starting point • Numbers • Combined data • Service Delivery • Epidemiology • Coding • Infection control • Stock control
