  3. PERSONAL SAFETY • FIRE SAFETY TIPS FOR AROUND THE HOUSE STOP - DROP - ROLL ESCAPE PLANS FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY SMOKE DETECTORS NEVER PLAY WITH FIRE!!!

  4. Fire needs three things to live. • Heat (flames) • Fuel (wood, paper, books, cotton, etc.) • Oxygen (air) Take away any one of these things and the fire goes OUT!

  5. Firemen use this knowledge to fight fires! • They use water to remove HEAT. • They use Foam to remove Oxygen. • They use axes and pike poles to remove fuel.

  6. Fire Fighters wear protective clothing to stay safe. • Helmets to protect from falling objects. • Steel reinforced boots to protect their feet and legs. • Bunker pants/quick-hitches and coat, to protect from heat and falling hot liquid. • YOU don’t have this protective clothing.

  7. Never Play with Matches or Lighters • If you find matches give them to an adult • Never play with a lighter • If you see a lighter, have an adult take care of it • Never play with fire of any kind • Playing with fire can cause your clothes to burn

  8. What do you do if your clothes catch on fire? • Fire needs oxygen to live. • Rolling takes away the fire’s oxygen. • Running increases the oxygen and the fire gets bigger! • So What Should YOU do?

  10. Smoke Detectors Save Lives • CHECK THEM EVERY MONTH! • CHANGE BATTERIES AT LEAST YEARLY! • KEEP THEM CLEAN AND DUST FREE!

  11. How do You get OUT of a House Fire! • Smoke and heat gather at the ceiling first. • Stay LOW and CRAWL out! • Feel the doors and don’t open a hot door! • Do not stop for ANYTHING!

  14. TWO WAYS OUT • Plan ahead and have TWO ways out of every room! • Through a door or out a Window.

  15. ESCAPE DRILLS IN THE HOME • Install Smoke Detectors and keep them in working order! How do you survive? • Make an escape plan and practice it! • HAVE A MEETING PLACE OUTSIDE! • Once you are out of the house, STAY OUT!

  16. Have a meeting place outside! • Near a Tree • By the mailbox • Next to the swing • Anywhere away from the road and the house

Once you are out STAY OUT! • Don’t go back inside for anything. • Don’t go looking for your favorite book. • Don’t go to get your favorite clothes. • Don’t go looking for your parents or anyone. • Don’t even go looking for your dog. He is probably safe outside running around! • STAY OUTSIDE AT THE MEETING PLACE!

  18. Should you call 911 before you leave the house? • NO WAY! • GET OUT! • Call from a neighbor’s home • Tell the neighbor to call. • Remember only call 911 for emergencies.

  19. PLAY IT SAFE! • Fire Safety is up to you!! • Keep yourself safe and keep your family safe by practicing safety measures in your own home!!
