  3. Our Origins Where it all started The UCT RDA builds on 15 years’experience with the EmergingResearcher Programme (ERP) whichsupports UCT academics who arenot yet established. The success of our internal ERP has led to considerableexternal enquiries for researcher development programmes and this traction led to our birth as the RDA.

  4. Our Achievements A total of 871 ERP alumni since its inception in 2003, with 71 new fellows in 2018. 871 58.3% 26,8% Representation of black South Africans in the ERP is 58.3% (as opposed to 26.8% at UCT). About two thirds of ad hominem promotions each year were/had been ERP alumni. 40% 68% 57.8% 44,7% Female ERP members comprise 57.8% (compared to the overall 44.7% female academics representation at UCT) The proportion of academics with PhDs at UCTincreased from 40% to 68%(2003 to 2017). • A total of 871 ERP alumni since its inception in 2003, with 71 new fellows in 2018 • About two thirds of ad hominem promotions each year were/had been ERP alumni. • Representation of black South Africans in the ERP is 57.8% (as opposed to 26.8% at UCT). • female ERP members comprise 54.5% (compared to the overall 44.7% female academics representation at UCT) • The proportion of academics with PhDs at UCT increased from 40% to 68% (2003 to 2017).

  5. Our Principles UCT has built the ResearcherDevelopment Academy to assist academics to achieve their full research potential. This capacity building expertise encompasses universal elements applicable to the global Higher Education environment. This expertise is being offered by the RDA programmes within South Africa and Africa.

  6. Our Working Philosophy The RDA partners rather than imposes. Through partnering with institutions we ensure our offerings are well aligned with their specific environment and built on our mutual strengths. Taking a long-term partnership approach, the RDA supports the development of research capacity at institutions. Programmes are designed in close collaboration with the institutionsconcerned to suit their needs, strengths and strategic aims.
