  1. The First Murder Case 1/26/2013 Wesley YAY Fellowship

  2. Ice-Breaker: What is your attitude about life? What life motto do you have guiding you through many life decisions? The First Murder Case

  3. Some examples: • “Do the best. Be the Best. Being Second is not motivating” • “Everyone has his burden. What counts is how you carry it.” • “Rest in the Lord, and follow His path is my priority. His plan is the best for me.” • “The big secret in life is that there is no big secret. Whatever your goal, you can get there if you’re willing to work.” • “You may fall so many times, but always stand up!” • “EAT BETTER THINK BETTER & DREAM BIG.” • “Do as I please, work hard, and everything is controllable in my hands, in another word, I control my destiny!” The First Murder Case

  4. Let’s read Ge 4. The First Murder Case

  5. The Agelong conflict from Ge 3:15 Cain Seed of Serpent Satan Vs. Vs. Vs. Abel Seed of Woman Christ The First Murder Case

  6. Question Time: O-Observe • Ge 4:1-12. What type of genre is this piece of Scripture? • Who was the author? • Who are the characters involved? • How did the Scripture describe Cain? • How did the Scripture describe Abel? (Mat 23:35; Luke 11:50-51, He 11:4) • What was Cain’s offering? Did God like it? • What was Abel’s offering? Did God like it? • Was it just God’s personal preference, or what Cain did was not right in God’s eyes, and where would you be able to verify that? The First Murder Case

  7. Question Time: O-Observe • How did the Scripture describe Cain’s reaction towards God’s attitude of his offering? • Now in V.6, what happened? How was God’s manner like? • What did God said to Cain? What happen when we “not do what is right”? • In v. 7, the word “desire” is the same word as in Ge 3:16. Talk about that! The First Murder Case

  8. Question Time: O-Observe • What did Cain do about his anger? • If you are the detective, do you think Cain killed with premeditated intention, or killed by impulse? • Now God appeared again, what did He said to Cain? • How did Cain respond to Him? How was it? • What was the consequence of Cain’s sin? How did God describe Cain’s existence on earth? The First Murder Case

  9. More Questions: I – Interpret • How do we deal with the question of fairness, is it not fair that God find favor in Abel’s offering? Didn’t Cain give an offering too, he pick “some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord.” but why did the Lord not favor his? The First Murder Case

  10. More Questions: I – Interpret • Pls refer to Ge 3:21 • According to Dr. Henry Morris, The Genesis Record, he has the following points: • God probably has made provision to continue to commune with man, even though now “at a distance,” on the basis of His promise of a coming Redeemer, whose shed blood would be the price of redemption. • God has shown Adam & Eve that an “atonement” required the shedding of innocent blood to provide a “covering” for the guilty. • A proper offering would required before approaching God. Worship means “bowed down” to God’s will – acknowledged their own guilt and helplessness. The First Murder Case

  11. Meaning of Offering: • A respond to God’s love • “atonement” of sin (Ref He 9:11-15,22) • A way to dealt with sin before approaching God for God is holy (Ref He 9:27-28) The First Murder Case

  12. Let’s wrap up for this week: • Two life attitudes, which one are you? • Walk on your own path, listen to yourself, do what is pleasing to yourself – “restless wanderer (Ge 4:12)” • Walk in His path, obedience, do what is pleasing to Him – “to call on the name of the Lord (Ge4:26)” • The path is a commitment, not a one time deal!! The First Murder Case

  13. Let’s wrap up for this week: • The Warning from God to Cain, and also to us too: • “But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it. (Ge 4:7)” The First Murder Case

  14. James 4:7-9 (NIV) • 7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.  The First Murder Case

  15. 1 Peter 5:8 (NIV) • 8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. The First Murder Case
