  1. The Co-ed Killer Brian Bellrichard Psychology

  2. Background • Edmund Kemper was born in California in 1948. • He was very intelligent even at a young age but it was obvious already he was not okay as he showed cruelty to animals and had a bizarre fantasy life.

  3. Family Life • The main reason Kemper became a serial killer was he grew up in such a trouble home. • His parents divorced when he was 9 and he never took that well. • He then went to live with his mother who was a violent alcoholic and had a personality disorder. She never treated Edmund like a mother should. • His mother constantly made fun of him, and she even made Edmund sleep in a locked basement because she feared what he might do to his sister.

  4. Family continued • Kemper hated his mother so much that he ran way from home to his father’s house. His father then sent Edmund to his grandparents house. • Edmund hated his grandparents because he felt they bossed him around. • One day he got into an argument with his grandmother about shooting the birds, so he instead shot his grandmother in the head and stabbed her repeatedly. • When his grandfather got home, Edmund shot him too because he feared that his grandfather would be mad at him for what he had done to his grandmother. When asked why he did it he replied, “I just wanted to see what it would feel like.”

  5. continued • After the murders, Kemper was sent to Atascadero State Hospital for the criminally insane. • It was there that it was discovered he has an IQ of 136. Because he was so intelligent he was able to memorize the correct responses to many questions asked by doctors. • Despite many doctors there demanding he stay, he was released just before his 21st birthday into the custody of his mother.

  6. Out of prison • Once Kemper was let out, he got a job working on the highway department until he earned enough money to move out. • He then bought a car and started noticing girls walking around instead of driving. • He then filled the trunk of his car with knives, plastic bags, and handcuffs. • Kemper estimated that he gave 150 girls rides before he couldn’t help himself any longer.

  7. murders • Kemper picked up two girls, Mary Pesce and Anita Lucheessa who were on there way to Stanford. • He drove them into the woods where he stabbed and killed them both. • Next, he took the bodies to his place where he took pictures and cut off all their limbs. • Lastly, he cut off Mary’s head and had oral sex with it.

  8. continued • A few months later, he gave a ride to 15 year-old Aiko Koo. He then strangled her to death. • He took her back to his house, raped and dissected her body, before burying her head in his mom’s garden. • In 1973, he picked up Cindy Schall and drove to a secluded area. He proceeded to shoot her and kill her. Next he took the body to his mother’s house and dissected her body and left her in the bathtub overnight.

  9. More victims • One month later, he got in an argument with mother and left the house angry. • He picked up Rosalind Thorpe and Allison Liu, and then drove off to an abandoned area before shooting them both. • He took the two bodies to his mother’s house where he cut off their heads and raped their bodies. He then took the bodies and dumped them over a cliff.

  10. revenge • Kemper blames his psychotic behavior on his mother for the way she raised him. It was time for Kemper to get back at his mother. • When his mother was sleeping, he went to her room with a hammer and murdered her. • He then cut off her head and used it as a dartboard and cut out her vocal cords and put them in the garbage disposal and felt satisfied with his work. • He also invited Sally Hallett over and murdered her before raping her body. • Another reason he wanted her dead was because he felt he knew he would be caught soon, and he didn’t want his mom to know she raised the Co-ed Killer.

  11. Sentencing • Kemper drove eastward before he decided to turn himself in. He called the police and admitted to the murder of his mother. • When the police came he admitted to all of his murders and told them in detail to the arresting officers. • At the trail he pleaded insanity, but was found guilty to all 8 counts of murder. • He was then sentenced to life in prison.
