Wisconsin Science Network Something to think about : • Many of you have indicated that elementary science is at a near standstill in your school as emphasis has been shifted to testing in math and reading. On May 23, the Science Accountability Act (H.R. 5442) was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill would amend NCLB to ensure that science would be counted in Wisconsin’s accountability system. The bill would also phase in annual science assessments for students in grades 3-8 beginning in 2009-2010 to match the current assessment requirements for reading and math. This bill is a sign of the times and has a good chance of passing. It is time to start thinking of the impact it may have on your district.
