  1. How Men’s & Women’s Kimono is Different? Just like all the fashion choices around the world, men’s and women’s kimono has a difference. If you want to become a kimono expert, I invite you to follow me on a journey to learn all about kimono made for both genders. A Kimono is worn by both and women in Japan, although most people think that it is only worn by Japanese women and actually there are many differences between men’s and women’s kimono. When you go to Japan country you will go for kimono rental and walk around Japan to experience some good & unforgettable moments. Basic Kimono From the below picture you can spot some noticeable difference between men’s kimono cardigan and women’s kimono. Color- Women’s kimono tend to have more color varieties in-store as well as online and are available in vibrant colors like red, pink, purple and yellow, while male kimono stick to the subtle colors of black, brown, gray and navy blue. Pattern- In mens kimono jacketyou don’t often have strong patterns usually only the kamon. But women’s kimono often feature different patters related to nature. However, you can find some fun modern kimono styles in online stores.

  2. Obi Kimono An obi is a belt that holds the kimono tight. While men’s obi have three main types- kaku-obi, heko-obi, and sanjaku-obi. While women have three times the variety, including maru-obi and fukuro- obi. Men’s Obi is quite thinner, with subtle colors and prints. Women’s obi is thicker with more color and pattern varieties. Furthermore, there are even some decorative ways of tying an obi for women than men. You might have seen modern girls tie obi like a flower or butterfly on their back. Collar Kimono This is very minor differences; a collar of men’s kimono does not have a lot of space between the neck and collar. However, space is sometimes bigger & wider for young women, showing off more neck (traditionally considered an erotic zone for Japanese men). Older or married women in Japan tend to have a simple kimono without drawing much attention to the neck. Supply & Demand Some of you might be wondering why there are more options in women kimono. Well, it’s because women have a higher demand for kimono cardigans and jackets these days. Therefore, more are supplied for them. Japanese women tend to choose kimono over Western fashion in many formal occasions such as Graduation ceremony and wedding, while men’s nowadays mostly choose Western suits, naked & famous noragi jackets for winters.
