Uga s program

UGA’s Program

  • BioPharma Regulatory Affairs Program

    • Online graduate program

    • For working professionals in the pharmaceutical, medical device, biologics, combination products, and animal healthcare industries

    • FDA-regulated products primarily

    • Address new product development, clinical trials, product submissions, manufacturing, maintenance and marketing support for these healthcare products

Accessibility lessons learned

Accessibility: Lessons Learned

  • Best Practices for web-based instruction are often compatible with accessibility needs.

    • E.g. Providing lecture notes; using both icons and text to identify content; and consistency of content & courses

  • Retrofitting course syllabi, Blackboard homepages, etc. is easily done.

    • E.g. Adding disability statement to syllabus as well as the course homepage; using appropriate fonts, font sizes & styles; and selecting the high contrast color scheme to your Blackboard course

However

However…

  • Retrofitting recorded lectures is hard work and time consuming.

    • E.g. adding closed captions; lecture transcripts; and ensuring software is ADA Compliant

  • Originally, we used Adobe Presenter for synchronizing audio lectures with PowerPoint slides.

    • Adobe Presenter is not compliant.

    • We now use both TechSmith’sCamtasia and Adobe Captivate.

    • When evaluating software choices, be sure to review ADA compliance. Still be cautious of software claims.

Recommendations

Recommendations

  • When evaluating software for ADA compliance:

    • Review its documentation and look for compliancy statements

    • Even if a software manufacturer indicates compliancy, it is always best to evaluate that for yourself

    • New England ADA Center’s website - How can I tell whether a software application is accessible? http://www.humancentereddesign.org/neada/site/how_tell_accessible_software

Recommendations1

Recommendations

  • WAG – Join UGA’s Web Accessibility Group.

  • Plan for accessibility before developing your content.

    • Have faculty provide transcripts or use outside resources for transcriptions

  • Familiar websites that are great resources and have examples are the HHS and FDA websites.
