  2. Introduction What is SMS? SMS is an acronym standing for Short Message Service. It is popularly referred to as text messaging or "texting" as well.  SMS is a method by which messages can be sent to a cell phone via another cell phone, computer connected to the Internet, a regular land line, or any handheld device such as a Blackberry.

The United States has seemed to be a slow adopter for the early years of the 21st century, but the pace of texting appears to be increasing in the United States as service providers make its use, particularly between networks, easier. With TXTing figures from Asicion,  the messaging and charging company of choice for over 300 network operators and service providers worldwide, the Philippines reaffirms itself as the TXT capital of the world… sending a remarkable 1.39 billion text messages from a subscriber base of just 50 million.
