  1. Meet Mrs. Chavis Welcome to my class!

  2. I have been teaching for 23 years. I taught my first 12 years at Walhalla Middle School. I then taught for two years at Ambler Elementary School in Pickens, SC. Then I moved to Edwards Middle School in Clemson, SC for two years. Now, this is my 9th year at Ware Shoals High School.

  3. I have taught everything from 4th grade to Seniors. I have a wide variety of experience in a wide variety of areas. I received both my Bachelor’s Degree and my Master’s Degree from Clemson University. Go Tigers!

  4. Cross Country This year, I will begin coaching along with Mrs. Pendley the first XC team in the history of WSHS.

  5. My hobby is obviously running. I began running in June of 2011. At that time, I needed to become more fit, so I decided to do something that I had heard I would become addicted to, running! I lost 50 pounds and became a runner. Since that time, I have run in many 5K races, 1 10K race, and 1 Half-marathon (13.1 miles). I will participate along with my daughter and several other teachers from WSHS in another Half-marathon in February 2014.

  6. I am by NO means fast, but I can endure. That’s important to remember in math as well. You have to endure even if math is not your best subject! It’s not about winning, it’s about finishing. Here is the front runner in my half-marathon. He was doing the full marathon (26.2 miles). I was at mile 9 when he was at mile 22. 

  7. My Family My husband and I have been married 23 years. We have two children, Moriah and Bryson. Both of my children are students in Ware Shoals. Moriah is a Senior and Bryson is an 8th grader.

  8. Our Pet We have an 8 year old tuxedo cat named Cosmo. He is spoiled rotten!

  9. Our Class I expect: You to give your best every day! Ask questions when you don’t understand! Show respect to me and your classmates! Do your work daily including homework! I have never had a student do all of these things and not pass my class.

  10. My favorite quotes: “When one door closes another opens. but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us." --Alexander Graham Bell “The essence of mathematics is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple.” --S. Gudder “You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The "secret" of your success is found in your daily routine .” --John C. Maxwell "My life - my personality, my habits, even my speech - is a combination of the books Ichoose to read, the people I choose to listen to, and the thoughts I choose to tolerate in my mind" — Andy Andrews

  11. It’s going to be a great year!
