  1. 5 Types of Architects and their Distinct Roles and Responsibilities

  2. Introduction While the role of architects in society is indeed very vast and comprehensive, their precise responsibilities are often ambiguous to outsiders. This ambiguity also stems from the fact that architects tend to perform a wide range of functions and deal with a variety of structures and designs. However, as a profession, architecture is bifurcated into different categories in terms of the specific roles performed by architects. When one pursues an architecture degree course in India, s/he comprehends architecture as a broad domain but may then choose to establish his/her career in a specific subdomain. So, here’s a look at 5 types of architects and their distinct roles and responsibilities:

  3. Residential Architect • With the kind of population explosion we are faced with today, comfortable residential accommodations are the needs of the hour. And as more and more residential colonies are getting established, there is a growing demand for skilled architects who can design these areas by incorporating the best facilities.A residential architect deals with planning and designing residential complexes and apartments from the scratch and striving to fulfil the housing requirements of thousands of individuals and families. The best B. Arch colleges in India help architecture students come up with innovative and useful ideas to plan residential apartments.

  4. Commercial Architect • The structures and functions of commercial buildings are different from residential ones; thus, commercial architects step in to build these structures. Commercial architects are majorly responsible for planning the designs of commercial and public buildings. These may include corporate offices, shopping malls, airports and other public places. Such architects carefully study the functions served by these commercial areas and then plan the structures accordingly.

  5. Urban Designer: • Systematically planning and designing open spaces is just as important as planning structures and buildings. Properly envisioned open spaces like parks, playgrounds, promenades and corniches form aesthetically sound cities, towns and villages. An urban designer governs the development of open spaces, landscapes, gardens and other such localities.Thebest B. Arch colleges in India strive to teach students innovative and sustainable ideas to designopen spaces.

  6. Landscape Architect • These architects are concerned with designing outdoor spaces such that they can be utilized by residents and tourists in the most effective ways possible. They deal with planning the layouts of gardens, playgrounds, promenades, walking spaces etc.

  7. Interior Design Architect • Planning closed spaces and rooms can be as stimulating and enriching as designing entire structures. An interior design architect is responsible for detailed planning and designing of interior spaces, i.e. the rooms, corridors, staircases etc. of buildings. Premier interior designing schoolsteach students to carry out a detailed requirement analysis and design these indoor spaces accordingly.

  8. Conclusion • Architecture is all about undertaking the tight rope walk between aesthetics and utility and striking the perfect balance.
