  2. Life as a Child • Kristiana was born in Los Angeles, California. • She loved writing as a kid.

  3. Schools • Kristiana attended both private and public schools in New Mexico • She received her first rejection letter at age 11 for a poem.

  4. College • After she graduated from high school she took jobs that helped with her writing. • For example she was a newspaper reporter and a book reviewer. • She also took college courses to learn more about writing.

  5. Books • She has written many books for middle school students through adult books.

  6. First Books • Kristiana’s first books include Jenny of the Tetons • Jenny of the Tetons won the golden kite award for best children's fiction.

  7. Other Famous Books • The Winter of Red Snow: The Revolutionary War Diary of Abigail Jane Stewart, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, 1777 was published in 1996 • She wrote most of the Dear America series.

  8. Spare Time • In her spare time she likes to take long walks with her dogs. • Read historical fiction • Learn to cook. • Play golf.

  9. Other jobs • When Kristiana wasn’t writing she was doing a couple other jobs including… • Telephone operator. • Legal secretary. • A summer camp counselor/ swim instructor.

  10. Now • Now she lives in Boise Idaho with her husband, two teenage sons, and two golden retrievers.

About her books-Jenny and the Tetons • Orphaned by an Indian raid while traveling West with a wagon train, fifteen-year-old Carrie Hill is befriended by the English trapper Beaver Dick and taken to live with his wife Jenny and their six children. Indians killed her parents and ruined her life. To her dismay, Carrie discovers that Beaver Dick's wife, Jenny, is a Shoshoni Indian! But as Carrie's wounds heal under Jenny's gentle care, she begins to respect and love this kind woman.

  13. About her books-Earthquake at Dawn • This story is about the earthquake that happened in San Francisco. Edith Irvine and her father was there when it struck and Edith and her maid are trying to find her father while food and water are scarce.

  14. About her books-Bronte’s Book Club • Bronte Bella has just recently moved with her family from New Mexico to California. Wanting to use the move to her advantage, Bronte is determined to make a new start. Typically shy, she wants to make friends than anything else. So she tries to make a book club.

  15. About her books- • Twelve-year-old Jimmy Spoon wants to have more excitement and he's certain that a horse would do that. When two Shoshoni boys tell him they'll give him a horse if he agrees to ride with them back to their camp, Jimmy doesn't hesitate for one second. He decides to leave his family in Salt Lake City, and goes with the boys without telling anyone. The trip is long and Jimmy is exhausted and hungry, and wishes they were there already so he could ride his horse home. But what happens next changes Jimmy's life, because they expect him to stay forever!
