  1. E-commerce branding By : Jemma Stembridge

  2. Business Background • The business is an ideal one for the target audience of 18-30 years of age. • As technology is on the rise and more people are becoming competent with new technology, this is a great asset to the market.

  3. Research • Music Magpie • This is a fairly new e-commerce company that has been very successful because, one of the main reason there aren’t many e-commerce businesses that offer the opportunity to sell on music, as well as other media formats such as game and DVD’s. The main competitors are eBay and play.com however they don’t allow sales of hardware so this is one of the main reasons their advertising and branding had to be very unique. The logo and whole brand uses a very chirpy magpie that is smiling. This logo represents them as being a friendly business especially as the magpie looks happy. • This is essentially a nice brand identity however it does link in with the name but I see it as the brand appealing to children and it may not to the mass market as they will be adults. This particular site has spent more money on branding then some sites in the form of television adverts, they have used them to showcase their brand and they use young actors so they can appeal to the target audience.

  4. Research • eBay • The logo was created by a man called Bill Cleary and he is part of a workgroup called CKS group. The reasoning behind the brand in the colour selection according to a source “The primary colours of the logo depict fun, excitement and childlike energy”, so this says a lot about the ethos of the company. I could see this in the logo and this shows that the company want to have a relaxed and friendly brand identity. • In my opinion this logo could be changed with still maintaining the friendly feel as I think it looks rather informal for a large company that they are. Their main competitors are, EBuyer, Stuff 4 Sale and pre loved and play.com. The brand is aimed at computer savvy individuals that like to buy and sell online, they have made it easier than ever for people to buy and sell online. This is why they do a lot of online advertisements to promote their brand. One reason why they are so successful is because they have a very likable and easy to recognise logo / brand.

  5. Logo in Situ

  6. Logo • The logo is a simple logo but its affective as it sort of sums up the company. The futuristic look has been achieved that appeals to the age group.

  7. Colour Choices • Black as it’s a colour that stands out and blue for the stream through the text it looks like a stream running through the text so the colours are fit for purpose. Also it links in with the name.
