  3. Collaboration BASIC DEFINITION: When two or more people work together • Instructor plus the class • Class plus Class • Student to Student • Expert to Class

  4. Technology BASIC DEFINITION: Modern devices with applications and programs that are internet based. • One to one uniform (class sets) • BYOT • Single Device • Working from home • Smaller set of devices (i.e. – Five iPads)

  5. Basic Process What is the desired outcome? What is the objective? What is the learning mode? What level of collaboration best meets the learning mode? What level of technology is available? Make selections

  6. Process: Step One What is the desired outcome? • What is the product? • What technology am I thinking about?

  7. Step Two: Objective • How does this line up with curriculum? • How does this outcome assist in the learning process?

Step Three: Learning Mode • Question & Answer • Students are provided with a question and must come up with an answer without scaffolding / prompt / support – short answer • Quantitative • Provide a set of questions with a set of answers. • Problem-based • Students are presented with a problem / scenario and must come up with a potential solution. All solutions may be feasible. • Abstract thinking • Students are presented with a problem/scenario that does not necessarily have an answer.  Students must exam the problem from all angles and determine what strategies should be used to work towards a solution and/or mitigate the issue.

  9. Step Four: Collaboration • Instructor + Class • Student + Student • Not necessarily in the same class • Small groups • Class + Class • Two separate classes • Expert + Class • Expert – Someone from outside the direct classroom.

Step Five: Technology • One-to-One with uniform devices • Often occurs with school provided devices (ex. all students are given an HP laptop) • One-to-One with BYOT devices • Each student has a device to work on but the device type, platform, and capabilities range greatly. • One device in the classroom • The teacher utilizes or passes around one device. • Work from home • Students use their own computers/devices at home to complete a task.

Sample Process • What is the desired outcome? • Want the students to research level four virus in conjunction with reading “The Hot Zone” • What is the objective? • Students will research the cause and effect of Ebola Marburg with specific focus on mode of transmission, viral symptoms, and modern examples of outbreaks. The students will prepare a ten minute presentation in which they will instruct the class with their virus

Sample Process Version Two • What is the desired outcome? • Want the students to research level four virus in conjunction with reading “The Hot Zone” • What is the objective? • Students will research the cause and effect of a level four virus and prepare a ten minute presentation on their findings.
