  1. Science Data Products • Timothy Quinn

  2. Probe Level 0 (L0) Data File • The L0 data files will: • Contain single AppID packet type • Cover a 24 hour period • Be time ordered • Have overlap deleted • Remain compressed • Contain a 1024 byte ancillary data header

  3. Header (1024x8 ) Packet (Nx8) Packet (Nx8) Packet (Nx8) Packet (Nx8) Packet (Nx8) 1024 Byte File Header: Bytes 0-19: A 20-byte identifier (could be ASCII) which denotes this as a THEMIS L0 APID file. Bytes 20-23: Four binary bytes with SCID in long, unsigned integer format (MSB first). Bytes 24-27: Four binary bytes with APID in long, unsigned integer format. Bytes 28-31: Four binary bytes with the number of packets in long, unsigned integer format (MSB first). Bytes 32-35: Four binary bytes in 32-bit unsigned MSB format containing the full 4-digit year of the Start Date. Bytes 36-39: Four binary bytes in 32-bit unsigned MSB format containing the Month (1-12) of the Start Date. Bytes 40-43: Four binary bytes in 32-bit unsigned MSB format containing the Day-of-Month (1-31) of the Start Date. Bytes 44-47: Four binary bytes in 32-bit unsigned MSB format containing the version number of the file. Bytes 48-1023: TBD Packet Size: Nx8, where N is based on APID Probe Level 0 (L0) Data File

  4. Probe Level 1 (L1) Data Products • L1 Probe State File (CDF Format) • This will include: • Probe Position (GEI Coordinates) • Probe Velocity (GEI Coordinates) • Probe Spin Axis Attitude (GEI Coordinates)

  5. Probe Level 1 (L1) Data Products • L1 Calibration Data Files(ASCII or CDF Format) • This will include: • FGM Mounting Orthogonality and Gain • FGM Boom Angles • SCM Boom Angles • SCM Gains • ESA MCP Gains, one per anode for 16 anodes x 2 heads • SST Gains, 3 per telescope x 4 telescopes x 2 shutter conditions (open/closed • EFI 1 current and 3 voltages per sensor x 6 sensors

  6. Probe Level 1 (L1) Data Products • L1 Data File(CDF Format) • The CDF data files will: • Contain ALL APIDs • Cover a 24 hour period • Be uncalibrated • The end user will process this file using the other L1 products, UCB software, and GSFC/NSSDC CDF software to produce physical quantities: • (L1 Products)x(NSSDC/CDF S/W)x(UCB S/W)=Physical Quantities

  7. Probe Level 2 (L2) Data Products • Key Parameter Data Sets • These will include the following in CDF format: • 3-D magnetic field, DC waveforms and AC spectrograms • 3-D electric field, DC waveforms and AC spectrograms, probe electric potential • Core (10 eV - 40 keV) ion density and velocity moments, temperature and pressure tensor, energy spectrogram • Core (5 eV-30 keV) electron temperature and pressure tensor, energy spectrogram • Energetic ion and electron fluxes • GMAG Activity Index • Keograms (Ground image summaries)

  8. Probe Level 2 (L2) Data Products • Summary Plots • In general, these plots will take the form of single and multi-probe types, including ground based observations. These include:  Probe Detailed Overview o GMAG high latitude activity index + AKR trace in one panel o Bx, y, z in one panel o Ni, Ne, S/C plot in one panel o Vx, Vy, Vz, and Vt in one panel o Ex, Ey, and Ez in one panel o Omni-SST spectrum o Omni-ESA spectrum o 0 - 4 kHz EFI spectrum o 0 - 4 kHz SCM spectrum o Burst index o Time, position (GSM X,Y,Z)

  9. Probe Level 2 (L2) Data Products • Summary Plots • Mission Overview o GMAG high latitude activity index o All AKRs in one panel o Three keograms from 3 stations o One panel containing Bt, Bz from all probes (color coded, max = 100 nT) o Five panels, each of: o Omni-SST spectrum + Omni ESA spectrum + Vx, Ni overlaid white o Burst index, 5 thin lines o Time

  10. GBO Level 1&2 Data Products • Image Products • Daily/Hourly keograms • Daily/Hourly montage’s • Ground Magnetometer Products • “Flat” file (binary format, S/W available) • Ascii file
