Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health (ESOH) Committee Update • MIL-STD-882E Implementation • May 2012 “DoD Standard Practice for System Safety” • Efforts focused on 25 November 2013 Interim DoDI5000.02 • DoD Acquisition Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health (ESOH) IPT provides ESOH content • Changes include: • Requires programs to use the methodology in MIL-STD-882E (vice D) for management of ESOH risks • Streamlines documentation, eliminating redundancy • Document planning in Systems Engineering Plan (SEP) • Document results of analyses in Programmatic ESOH Evaluation (PESHE) at Milestones B and C and Full Rate Production review • Working issue of Interim DoDI 5000.02 language that can be misunderstood to mean that software programs without a hardware component not required to perform software system safety analyses

Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health (ESOH) Committee Update • Working with AIA on NAS 411-1 list of Tracked HAZMAT • May 2012 MIL-STD-882E Task 108 provides DoD Program Offices with optional HAZMAT management tool • Focuses efforts on priority HAZMAT • Requires contractual agreement on lists of Prohibited, Restricted, and Tracked HAZMATs • AIApublished NAS 411 and NAS 411-1 on 30 September 2013 • DoD Acquisition ESOH IPT worked with AIA to develop • NAS 411 provides defense contractors with detailed implementation guidance to support Task 108 • NAS 411-1 identifies 11 Prohibited and 66 Restricted HAZMAT • DoD and AIA agreed to jointly develop list of Tracked HAZMATs to be published in revised NAS 411-1 in 2014 • DoD Acquisition ESOH IPT prepared initial list of Tracked HAZMAT and distributed to Services in Jan 2014 for review and comment • Objective is to reduce initial list of 1007 HAZMAT to maximum extent possible without compromising DoD HAZMAT management
