  1. New Staff Orientation Kay Carlisi Instructional Computing Coordinator

  2. Your Employee Computer Account • Needed for logon to any computer on Main Campus • Access your e-mail on campus (with Outlook) or from the Web (mail.flcc.edu) • File storage on a secure server (Main Campus only) – Drive U: • Special LAN access rights for teaching faculty (Drive S:) or other shared folders

  3. Where to Store Your Files • On your U: drive • Secure and backed up. • You can retrieve deleted files or prior versions. • You can access files from any computer on Main Campus. • Faculty office computers have a D: drive for extra storage on your local computer. • D: is NOT secure. Anyone who logs on to your computer has full access. • Files on D: are available only in your office. • You must back up important files yourself. • In computer labs, files on D: are deleted when you log off.

  4. Where NOT to Store Your Files • In faculty offices, never store files on drive C: or on the desktop. • Everything on C: (including the Desktop) will be deleted if I reload your software due to a drive failure or software upgrade, but I will leave drive D: intact (unless the whole disk has died).

  5. Where to Store Files For Students • Online course materials on the Web • WebCt classes (lessons, grades, quizzes). • PAWS web page (post only). • SLN courses. Requires Notes client for authoring. • Materials available on campus LAN • S: drive – faculty can store files, students can read or copy them. NOT secure – all faculty have full rights to all files on S: • I: drive – software and supporting files. G: drive – graphics and videos anyone can read or copy. • You must ask Kay to put things on I: or G:

  6. File storage at extension sites • Geneva and Newark cannot connect to the Employee domain. • You logon using a “common” logon as gvastaff or nwkstaff or extfac on the site’s domain. • Read your e-mail on the web. • Each site has its own G: I: and S: drives. • The user extfac may store on the site’s S: drive – copy your files from removable storage or e-mail attachments. • Ask Kay for details (the site office has passwords).

  7. Online Documentation • flcc.edu • Office & Dept. Directory > Administrative Offices > Institutional Computing • paws.flcc.edu • Computer Helpdesk • Kay Carlisi • intranet.flcc.edu • You must authenticate with your Employee username (in the format employee\carliskf) and password • Postings from staff, employee directory, board minutes, calendar, forms and other info
