Researcher: is there is anything that can be done to make her feel better? Interpreter She just needs to give it some time. Researcher: Give it time. Interpreter She has just had a baby she needs to give it time. (Sapla:p40)

Palo Almond/15th September 2009/EU Primary Care Conference 4 Kath ‘The pressures of having a baby I suppose … I didn’t have the easiest pregnancy and then having the baby was completely traumatic…so just like actually going through the birth and things like that and afterwards when they’re not sleeping and if you don’t know what to settle with them … I should imagine it probably would get you down… I mean if they haven’t got a partner and they’re doing it by themselves.’ (Kath: 50)

Palo Almond/15th September 2009/EU Primary Care Conference 6 Research Design and Methods Qualitative case study of one PCT in South of England Documentary analysis of policy and other documents Observation of 21 home visits by health visitors (HVs) 21 interviews with English (N=12 and Bengali women (N=9, seven via interpreters) 21 interviews with 16 HVs 6 interviews with managers 2 interviews with Bengali cohesion workers/interpreters 1 interview with a specialist mental health practitioner
