  4. Resolving Issues Focus • The focus of this section is on developing strategies for resolving problem situations at association meetings. Lesson 1 Objective: • Develop strategies for resolving typical problem situations at community association meetings

  5. Resolving Issues Activity #1: Strategies for Resolving Problem Situations Purpose: To develop the ability to strategize typical problem situations that occurs at community association meetings.

  6. Resolving Issues Scene 1 This is a garden-style condominium community of 192 units with a pool and recreation center. Homeowner #1 Homeowner #1 President Will Homeowner #3 Homeowner #4 Treasurer Tom

  10. Mission Statements What is a mission statement? • A mission statement is a short statement that describes the purpose for your association’s existence. Its function is to guide you and your staff in making critical and strategic decisions that affect the direction of your association.

  17. Goals Goal • A goal is a broad, general, intangible, and descriptive statement of an outcome to be reached within a timeframe. Objective • An objective is a specific statement that describes desired behavior in measurable terms with acceptable criteria of performance.

  19. Goals Types of Goals • Short term goals can be achieved in the near future (e.g. within a few months, a year or within 3 years) • Long term goals can be achieved over a long period of time (e.g. 3-5 years).

Goals Guidelines for Developing Goals: • Determine the needs and concerns of the association members. • Set goals. • Consider steps needed in order to meet goals. • Identify possible constraints in reaching the goals. • Identify solutions for removing the constraints. • Establish priorities for achieving the goals.
