Current Crash System • Manual (paper) Data Entry only • Document Imaging (for printing historical reports) • No historical data in database (no historical analysis) • Inconsistant/Innacurate Location data • Incomplete data collection (cannot add new fields to database) • Manual data exports: TIMS, DGR

Crash Project Synopsis • The Crash System Improvement Project has the following goals: • Improve the statewide crash database for all electronically and manual submitted crash record data. • Electronic collection of crash data. • Improve the exchange of data between the agencies to help reduce the number of fatal crashes. • Provide a comprehensive repository for analytical reporting on crash data. • Address NMDOT policies and procedures specific to Release of Information and Records Retention.

Benefits to Shareholders DATA COLLECTION SOFTWARE REPLACEMENT: Plan the replacement of the Uniform Crash Report data collection software with a system that achieves the goals of the NMDOT Stakeholders. A comprehensive plan will include impacts to human, software, and hardware resources. Improve Customer Service: Improve support for data collection agencies and data consuming agencies. Enhance Quality of Operations: Ensure that essential procedures and documentation are in place, to guarantee the smooth operations of Crash Data collections. Business process performance: Monitor data submission process, quality of data and error correction.

Crash System Improvement Project Conclusion • Conduct a thorough Needs Assessment for the re-engineering of the NMDOT Crash System, including workflow and IT systems. • Based on the findings of the Needs Assessment, NMDOT/TSB may prepare for initiation of a Crash System Improvement Project.
