  14. Expectations As IMPACT students I have specific expectations for you. These are simple and if followed will result in not inciting my wrath. Have materials and be in the seat when class is to start. Always be respectful of others (I am not talking about just me you have a class full of peers that need your respect as well) Be honest with me (Say you did not do your homework, or that you did something. I am forgiving but I do not tolerate being lied to.) Be on top of your own stuff. I cannot remind you of everything. You are juniors and in college you have to be responsible for your own business. Do not waste time: We only have three days per week in Physics. We need all that time. Transitions must be short so that we can be ready to go and getting stuff done. If I have to cut time out it will be the fun stuff, not the lecture.
  15. Physics This is my second year to teach physics here. I really enjoy physics and hope to help you become successful at whatever level you need. Through Physics we learn about the natural world and develop our higher order thinking skills. Why do we need it? We need it because science education helps us to develop better problem solving and higher order reasoning. This helps us become more competitive in a global environment and become better problem solvers in our everyday life.
  16. Procedures Entry: Read board and pick up anything off of the table at the back of the room Tardy: Don’t do it. But if you are place the tardy slip in the pink basket at the front of the room Restroom (we have a nice break between classes for that you get one restroom pass per six weeks) Absent: On the back wall are the lesson plans for the week. Copy down what we did and check the website for the files. Do not ask me what we did the other day it is back there on the board.
  17. Supplies Student supplies are by the door You can use any of it that you need for my class but it needs to be put back in the right place before you leave. Please do not mess with any lab supplies. We will get to use all of it or at least most of it. All supplies must look good and the room must be in perfect condition before you are allowed to leave.
  18. The Lesson Cycle A week of concept and then a week of the math application of that concept Math has three levels. The lowest level is plug and chug and each of the higher levels results in a slightly higher level of thinking. This means more steps We are going to have A level questions. These are level 3 questions that you only have to answer one question to get a 100 or a 110 on the test.
  19. TESTS! Test are 10 to 15 Multiple Choice questions 3 FRQ Multiple choice is graded using Einstruction FRQ’s graded by hand. Tests are 45 minutes only. No more time is allotted for any test given.

  23. Cool Resources If you do not have Microsoft office at home go to: Openoffice.org This is a free version of office that is completely legal. It does not offer all of the features but is pretty good if you do not have a copy of office already Physics Websites Crayon Physics Stricklandphysics.net(this one is important)
  24. Homework Sign up for Quest by Friday for your free 100 Read and take notes on section 1-1 When I say notes I am referring to Cornell notes style with the question at the top and the summary answering the question at the bottom. Do what you would do for Mr Edwards. Answer the following prompt: In your own words define physics and list an example from everyday life.
  25. Socrative Go to m.socrative.com Room number is 530739 Answer the questions to finish out the day We will typically have a closing activity like this
