  4. Note: • The verbs monter, descendre and sortir: • Use avoir whenfollowed by a direct object • Example: Il a descendu l’escalier • BUT • Il est descendu du taxi • Elle ___ montée dans sa chambre • Il ___ descendu sa valise (From Motifs Textbook)

  5. Reflexiveverbs • Reflexiveverbs use être: • Il s’est bien amusé • Je me suis rasé la barbe

  6. Agreement of PastParticiple • For verbsthat use être, the pastparticipleagreeswithgender and number of the subject of the verb • Il est parti • Elle s’est levée • Ils sont partis • Elles se sont levées • MAIS • Elle s’est lavé les mains
