  2. What exactly am I getting myself into? • Gears of War: The Gates of Hell • An environment built in the Gears of War editor • Models and textures all by me • Using my existing Cathedral Assets • Script an experience for the environment in Kismet

  3. But how will it benefit me? It will allow me to model more organic environmental assets which my portfolio is currently lacking It will allow me to create a full level that is done entirely by me, i.e. from art to event scripting

  4. Alright so lets break this down Overall level layout Overall goal for the player is to regroup with Delta squad at the front of the Cathedral

  5. Scene 1 Walkthrough • Player starts in a mausoleum • Works there way through the graveyard to the rear of the Cathedral • Emergence holes provide enemies to kill and also deform the ground Assets to model • Mausoleum Parts • Rocks • Debris • Tombstones • Graves • Iron Fences • Trees • Distance Trees • Lanterns • Grass • Paved Steps Textures to Paint • Grass • Dirt • Pavers • Stone Wall

  6. Scene 1 Event Breakdown 1. Inside Mausoleum • Requires player to interact with the door a few times to open it 2. Emergence hole • Deforms the terrain pushes graves up from the ground 3. Emergence hole • Deforms the terrain few gravestones fall into the underground 4. Emergence hole • Causes back Cathedral wall to collapse creating a way into the Cathedral

Scene 2 Walkthrough • As player enters, the Cathedral Collapses behind him • Hammer of Dawn on the ground under a hole in the roof • Berserker Breaks through front door • After defeating Berserker proceed through front door Existing Assets Assets to Model • Broken pew parts • Ivy • Broken roof parts Textures to paint • Wall crack decals • Tile

  8. Scene 2 Event Breakdown 5. Cathedral Collapse • As the player enters the rest of the ceiling falls blocking the player in 6. Hammer of Dawn • Used to kill Berserker 7. Berserker Spawn • Berserker breaks through the front door of the Cathedral

Scene 3 Walkthrough • Start on steps of Cathedral • A few emergence holes hinder the advance toward the APC • Once reaching the APC a Brumak comes from behind forcing the player to deal with this new threat • After shooting a few structural weakness points on the Cathedral the steeple falls and kills the Brumak Brumak Death Flowchart Reference photo Assets to Model Textures to Paint • Cathedral Exterior Details • Cathedral Steeple • Ruins • Massive Iron Gates • Concrete for Steps • Cathedral Exterior

  10. Scene 3 Event Breakdown 8. Emergence Holes • Gives the player an extra challenge 9. Delta Squad APC • Guides the player toward the end of the level 10. Brumak Spawn • Requires the player to destroy structurally weak points to have the steeple fall and kill the Brumak

  11. Uh… Its broken? Technical concerns and or potential trouble areas • Time • Scripting Berserker and Brumak • Getting Locust emergence holes to work properly • Level optimization ( keeping a realistic frame rate)

  12. Time is always a factor! Ideal Schedule • Class 6 – Final Pitch Presentation • Class 9 – All Assets modeled most textured • Class 10 – All assets imported into Gears of War Packages • Class 11 – Prototype blocked out in editor • Class 12 – Environment populated with final art • Class 15 – In class beta test • Class 17 – Hand in Project realization • Class 19 – Final Presentation
