  1. Literary Analysis • Irony: the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning. EXAMPLE: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend. • Dramatic Irony: irony that is a drama and is understood by the audience but not grasped by the characters in the play. • Verbal Irony: irony  in which a person says or writes one thing and means another. • Situational Irony: irony involving a situation in which actions have an effect that is opposite from what was intended,

  2. Tone • Authors set a Tone in literature by conveying emotions/feelings through words. • It indicates the writers attitude. • Examples: sympathetic, positive, negative, emotional, outraged, angry, happy, sad etc….
