    • June 30, 2004, NWS will begin implementing new codes

      • SCN 04-20 issued 3/3/04

  • Text product changes

    • September 8, 2004, add AWIPS ID (NNNXXX) to all “civil emergency” WOUSii (and OCONUS equivalent) products

      • "NNNs" to match the new SAME/EAS event codes

      • SCN 04-39 issued 6/21/04

  • Streamline “civil emergency” message collection & processing with HazCollect system initiative

    • Reduce message errors and time delay caused by current manual processing methods

    • Development begins this summer

    • Deployment in late 2005

    • Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)

      • NWR Special Interest Group (SIG)

      • CEA-2009 Public Alert receiver standards finalized December 2003

    • Protocol standards development for exchange and dissemination of hazard warnings and other critical messages (CAP and OASIS)
