  1. Individual’s Rights Under New GDPR Regulations Under the new GDPR rules, an individual has a lot more control over their personal information than ever before. Do you know what your rights are under the GDPR? For one, you have the right to know what any company has in terms of information relating to you held on their database or in hard copy form in their offices. You have the right to request a full copy of all records relating to you, and any company whom had access to your information will have to provide that to you. This includes any company that you personally did business with as well as any company that the business you interacted with sent your information to for whatever reason. For instance, a recruitment company will send your CV to potential employers and those employers are also now obliged to hold record of what they do with your information and ensure its safekeeping. If you determine that you want part of the information removed, you have the right under the new GDPR regulations to request that in writing to the

  2. company, and they will have to make the relevant deletions. If you want the entirety of the record deleted, you could have that done as well. If you do not want to have it shared with any third party, you have the right to deny the sharing of your information at the outset, which will eliminate any company’s ability to sell their customer database for profit which includes your personal details. Requesting a Copy of the Information All requests under the GDPR will need to be undertaken in written form, so it would be acceptable to send this request to an email address or through the contact us section on the relevant website. You now have the control over how your information is used and it is a responsibility that you have to decide when to act and have it deleted or modified to reflect a change of status. You might want to allow your information to be shared with other companies for the purpose of advertising and promotions, but if you don’t, the GDPR has created your ability to say no and have confidence your chosen company will

  3. keep your information safe. For the purpose of ensuring a company has steps in place to ensure this is being done, you have the right to request proof of what processes the company put in place to protect data.
