  1. Cirrhosis of Liver: Causes and Symptoms Cirrhosis of liver is a chronic liver disease, which is irreversible in nature. This disease is caused by the development of various hepatic disorders that cause intensive damage to the liver tissues. This condition slows down liver’s ability to perform its primary, metabolizing functions such as elimination of toxins, production of bile and glucose, and storage of nutrients. Cirrhosis is the end stage condition, upon reaching which, liver already has lost a significant part of its ability to function. This condition is caused when the normal tissues in liver are damaged beyond recovery and get replaced by fibroids, which are scar tissues. Scarring of liver tissues is a gradual process, and the fibroid tissues make the liver incompetent of performing its functions. This serious condition is caused by repeated consumption of alcohol, that is, progression of alcoholic fatty liver disease, accumulation of fats in liver cells, Hepatitis A and B, copper accumulation in liver (Wilson’s disease), and repeated bouts of heart failure. According to Dr. Vivek Vij, a renowned liver transplant surgeon, who has been awarded by Ministry of Health (Mongolia) has the highest success rate of liver transplant in India(100% donor success rate); about a significant number of patients, who experienced fulminant hepatic failure had Cirrhosis of liver. The disease can even lead to death if liver is not transplanted at the earliest. The presence of this condition (Cirrhosis of Liver) itself is an indication that the patient has ignored his hepatic health for a long period of time until the damage is irreversible. Dr. Vivek Vij, the best, who has been honoured with a special award at International Liver Transplant Society (ILTS), Chicago; states that there are certain mild symptoms that a patient experiences when he has this hepatic condition including fatigue, unexplained loss of weight, jaundice (yellow discolouration of eyes and skin), fluid accumulation in the abdomen, discomfort in the upper right abdominal region, loss of appetite, redness of palm, tiredness, fever, nausea, weakness, chest enlargement, easy bruising and bleeding. Cirrhosis of liver is a very serious liver condition, thus, it is important to ensure hepatic health, and avoid liver diseases to progress into cirrhosis. The importance of consulting a liver specialist during the onset stages of liver disease cannot be undermined. Liver diseases accentuate rapidly into a fatal condition, therefore, it is necessary to regularly consult a doctor upon experiencing even the slightest of discomfort concerned with the liver region.
