  1. THE ROLE OF BETTIS ACTUATORS IN MANUFACTURING UNIT A machine comprises of many components which make the task easy and help to increase the production of the plant. Among all the components the actuators are a mechanical device which is used to convert an electrical signal into physical action. The actuators are typically used in manufacturing industry to convert one form of energy into another form. This is an important component for controlling the valves, pumps, positioning drives, motor, etc. The actuators work with the help of source power to facilitate the motion. The actuators are controlled with the help of a specific form of energy, i.e. mechanical, electrical, and potential energy. With the use of actuators, the system is fully or partially automated. The production is maximized with the use of actuators. DIFFERENT TYPES OF ACTUATORS FOR MANUFACTURING UNIT Many actuators are developed according to the requirement of the production line. Some of them are pneumatic, linear, electric actuators which work on different types of power sources. Some actuators work on compressed liquid and gases. Based on their functionality and source power they are divided into different categories. SOME OF THEM ARE LISTED BELOW:-

  2. (1.) Hydraulic Actuators:- This actuators work on the principle of hydraulic power and converts the energy into mechanical energy. The hydraulic power can produce rotary, linear and oscillatory motion. It can move heavy equipment with a small force. The hydraulic actuators are made with the empty cylinder and piston rod which moves to generate motion. Hydraulic actuators can generate a lot of force to provide mechanical stiffness. (2.) Electrical Actuators:- This is an actuator which convertselectrical energy into mechanical energy. They can work on both AC and DC form. AC motors amplify the input signals to large scale and limit the speed to absolute value while DC motors control the speed and position of variable loads as compared to the DC motors AC motors are not capable of tolerating the load variations. A lot of control systems can be easily interfaced with the help of these actuators. As they run on electricity, it is easy to create motion in the actuators. The motor creates mechanical torque. The technicians don’t have to worry about the cleanliness of the hydraulic actuators. It is hazardous if not used carefully. The weight ratio is less as compared to hydraulic actuators. (3.) Pneumatic Actuators:- It is a type of actuator that is used to convert energy into compressed air at high pressure. It produces linear or rotary motion. These type of actuators consists of piston and cylinder fitted with valve and ports. It consists of piston and cylinder fitted with valve and ports. The cylinder has a piston with a diaphragm which separates the piston and pressurized air. The compressed air moves the diaphragm which turns the piston that is connected to the valve system. It helps to create the motion in actuators. There is no need to store the power for using these actuators.
