  1. Bowling IT'S TIME PLAY!

  2.                   History of Bowling  IT'S TIME PLAY!

  3. History of Bowling Bowling is one of the most popular leisure and sports activities in the world today in which players throw or roll a bowling ball towards a target. The majority of people think of bowling as an entertaining indoor game which is played with friends and family. Going to a bowling alleys, renting bowling shoes, taking a ball and trying to knock down all 10-pins in one or two tries. Other than this traditional 10- pin bowling, there is a variety of bowling games nowadays. Sources tell us that the earliest known forms of bowling can be traced back to circa 3200 BC in ancient Egypt. However, these old versions of bowling may not look like the modern versions. There is not much information on the early stages of the game until 2000 years ago.

  4. History of Bowling Perhaps the biggest and the oldest discovery that archeologists have made are objects found in ancient Egyptian child’s tomb and that are identified as bowling equipment. Such as pins, bowling balls, etc. The game can also be traced back to ancient Yemen, Germany, and Finland. In Polynesia, archeologists have also found balls of stone and pins that were utilized for the regional game called “Ula Maika”. Various forms of bowling were noted by Herodotus. According to him, that was an invention of the Lydians in Asia Minor. Another rough form of bowling evolved within Roman empire borders about 2000 years ago. Roman soldiers used to toss stone object trying to get them as close as possible to other stone objects. Centuries later, this form evolved into Italian “Bocce”, which is the outdoor bowling. This game was played by the Gallic tribe of Helvetii in northern Italy during Cesar’s rule (50 BC).

  5.                    Nature of Bowling   IT'S TIME PLAY!

  6. Nature of Bowling Bowling is a target sport and recreational activity in which a player rolls or throws a bowling ball toward pins (in pin bowling) or another target (in target bowling). In the U.S. and Canada, the term bowling usually refers to ten-pin bowling; in the U.K. and Commonwealth Countries, however, the term bowling could also refer to lawn bowls. In pin bowling, the goal is to knock over pins at the end of a lane, with either two or three balls per frame allowed to knock down all pins. A strike is achieved when all the pins are knocked down on the first roll, and a spare is achieved if all the pins are knocked over on a second roll.Lanes have a wood or synthetic surface onto which protective lubricating oil is applied indifferent specified oil patterns that vary ball path trajectories and characteristics

  7.                    Bowling Rules IIT'S TIME PLAY!

  8. Bowling Rules Sportsmanship Being competitive on the field is applauded & encouraged in all of our leagues! It is also important to understand that there is a fine line between being competitive & being unsportsmanlike. All players and referees should treat one another with respect on the field & after the game. Everyone has to go to work tomorrow, so please keep safety & sportsmanship in mind out there!

  9. Bowling Rules Inclusivity Every individual participating in a Players Sport & Social Group program may compete as a member of the gender that they identify with, regardless of their gender at birth. We expect all players to be respectful and honor the spirit of this policy. We are LGBTQIA+ friendly (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual and other sexualities and gender identities/expressions).  We have found that open communication between teams is super helpful. If there is a situation that may raise some questions from opposing teams, captains are encouraged to have a quick conversation with our umpire/official before the game to ensure everyone is on the same page. At the end of the day, inclusivity is key.

  10. Bowling Rules Game Play The regulations listed here are generally based around regulations set by the United States Bowling Congress and the British Tenpin Bowling Association. These rules are followed by all sanctioned leagues and events, such as tournaments. This is a Recreational Bowling league. The object to have fun, bowl well, and network with new friends.

  11. Bowling Rules Rules of play A game of bowling consists of ten frames. In each frame, the bowler will have two chances to knock down as many pins as possible with their bowling ball. In games with more than one bowler, as is common, every bowler will take their frame in a predetermined order before the next frame begins. If a bowler is able to knock down all ten pins with their first ball, he is awarded a strike. If the bowler is able to knock down all 10 pins with the two balls of a frame, it is known as a spare. Bonus points are awarded for both of these, depending on what is scored in the next 2 balls (for a strike) or 1 ball (for a spare). If the bowler knocks down all 10 pins in the tenth frame, the bowler is allowed to throw 3 balls for that frame. This allows for a potential of 12 strikes in a single game, and a maximum score of 300 points, a perfect game.

  12. Bowling Rules BOWL ON THE FOREHAND           Extend your left arm to the side           (if bowler is right handed). BOWL ON THE BACKHAND           Extend your right arm to the side           (if bowler is right handed). THIS IS OUR BOWL          Point closely to the bowl          and tap your shoulder or chest THIS IS THEIR BOWL          Point closely to the bowl          and wave your arm away. SHOTS FOR US          Tap your shoulder or head.

  13. Bowling Rules SHOTS AGAINST US           Tap your leg. WATCH THE HEAD          Before throwing a “runner,” simulate          a fast delivery with your bowling arm. HAVE YOUR BOWL STOP HERE          Put your foot where you want          the bowl to finish and point to it. BOWLS ARE TOUCHING          Touch knuckles together. WHERE IS THE JACK?          Bending down,          hold your palm forward.

  14. Bowling Rules THE SHOT IS A MEASURE          Wave hands apart, together,          apart as if measuring. THE BOWL IS THIS FAR IN FRONT OR BEHIND OF THE JACK          Spread your hands one above the          other. NOTE: Always give the DEPTH distance not the WIDTH. CHALK MY TOUCHER          Cross your hands at your wrist          and hold them in front of you.

  15.               Fundamental Skills and                Techniques of Bowling   IT'S TIME PLAY!

  16. Starting Location           To determine the starting location to begin your approach, take four and a half steps moving away from the foul line back into the approach area. Turn around and face the pins. This is where you will begin your approach.           In addition to locating how far from the foul line to begin your approach, you also need to determine where to position your feet to the left or right side of the lane. The seven positioning dots should be used as a reference to determine feet positioning. Right-handed bowlers should begin their approach with the big toe of their left foot positioned behind the center dot and left-handed bowlers should begin their approach with the big toe of their right foot positioned behind the center dot.

  17. Stance          Right-handed bowlers should begin their approach with their right foot slightly behind their left foot since the first step will be taken with the right foot. Left-handed bowlers should begin their approach with their left foot slightly behind their right foot since their first step will be taken with the left foot. The feet should be slightly apart, with the toes pointing towards the target.         Hold the ball to the right or left, respectively, in front of the shoulder, using the non-bowling hand to help support the bowl. The ball should be held waist high with the elbow in and close to the hip. Knees should be flexed slightly, with an overall relaxed posture.

  18. Holding the Ball           Choose a ball weight that you can comfortably control, with finger holes that fit comfortably, but are not too tight. Experiment with different weights and grips to find a ball that works best for you.           To determine thumb positioning on your bowling hand, imagine a clock in front of your hand. The thumb and palm pointing straight up is positioned at 12 o’clock. Shift the thumb downward to the left at the 10 o’clock position. Start with this position and maintain it throughout your swing and release as if you are reaching out to shake someone’s hand. This will create a side spin on the ball and a “hook” action towards the end of the roll.

  19. Targeting         The seven positioning arrows (15 feet away) are much closer to the foul line than the pins (60 feet away) and should be used as a reference to aim the ball. If you begin your approach with the big toe of your opposite foot on the center dot, your shoulder (and ball) should line up around the 2nd arrow. This is the arrow second closest to the gutter and where you will aim the ball on your side of the lane.
