In the Citric Passivation process, modern technology is used to remove free iron from the surface of chrome steel while using a safe and environmentally friendly acid. Chrome steel is composed of several metals, primarily chromium, iron, nickel, and, on rare occasions, manganese and molybdenum, as well as, other substances in varying amounts. By creating an outer passive protective oxide layer, this special mixture enables the distinctive properties of corrosion resistance. If properly passivated and cleaned before use, chrome steel surfaces may be incredibly resistant to corrosion. Even the 300 series contains austenitic chrome steel, which, once the corrosion site has begun, will only continue to deteriorate and self-catalyze. The corrosion site will quickly expand in an environment that is extremely corrosive.
