  1. To set-up an infiorata we need: • A place about 50 mq wide. • To be near to a water source • Some waterproof material as pvc to protect the ground

  2. It’s better to put some strong carpet (moquette) upon the pvc to absorb possible water loss

  3. In order to mix up sawdust and coloured water we need a concrete-mixer 350 liters capacious

  4. A cover on the concrete-mixer is very useful

  5. The power needed by a concrete-mixer is usually 1,4 Kw, and it works using 230 V, but they exist also 380 V needed models, it’s better to verify to have a compatible connection when renting the machine.

  6. Sawdust: it must be used clear kind of sawdust. Sawdust from fir-tree is good and easy to find from carpentries and saw-mills.

  7. Quantity: 1 sack 70 x 110 cm wide of virgin sawdust give almost 3 sacks of coloured sawdust. • For an infiorata of 100 mq we need at least 10 sacks of virgin sawdust • In order to colour 10 sacks of virgin sawdust we need almost 4 hours using 3 workers and 2 hours more to set-up and get-off.

  8. Colours: we must use only acrylic colours rigorously non-toxic at the touch and so aniline-free. It’s better to use very concentrated bases to water down. The quantity of colour base needed depends from the concentration of the base itself, so it’s difficult to establish them in advance. If necessary we could ask to our supplier to provide us technical sheet of the colours we use.

  9. Then we need • Some pails • A basin

  10. Some ladles • A pair of sticks to mix up colour and water • A pair of trowels

  11. Masks to protect eyes and respiratory tracts from colour and sawdust

  12. Empty sacks 70 x 110 cm wide. • A ball of string • Each 100 mq of infiorata are needed about 25 sacks or more, it depends from the number of the colours that are used in the sketch.

  13. Coloured sacks… ready to begin! In this case as you can see it has been used carpet (moquette) to protect the ground because of an indoor performance, usually outdoor carpet is not needed.
