  2. KrishnaLesson1: ImportanceofKarma(Duty) In theBattle of Kurukshetra,Arjuna'sconsciencewastroubledby thoughtsof killinghisown kinsmen, ancestors, andgurus. He refusedto fight, andthen Krishnarecitedthephilosophical epiccalledthe BhagavadGita.Hesaid,"Iamthesolecreatorofthisuniverse.IfIwish, I can destroy enemies in a jiffy with 'Sudarshan Chakra'. But I want to teach the importance of Karma (doing one's duty) to the coming generation.""Hefurthersaid,"Doyour duty and be detached fromthe result, don't bedriven bytheresult, enjoythejourney togetthere." Finally, hepersuadesArjuna to fightand destroytheenemies. If you don't work or do your duty, you won't get things or results in all of a sudden. This is the best lesson from the teachings of Lord Krishna. Youshoulddoyourdutywithoutexpectingtheresultorendresult. While I say this, it does not mean that it is wrong to be hopeful or optimistic, but without action, yourpath will bedifficult. The trickisnot to focus too much on the end result and just enjoy the process of getting there. Being process oriented rather than result-oriented improvesyouroverallproductivity. Mindfulness, that is,focusingon yourkarma(thework you are doing now) also improves your overall mental health. Arjun could not maintain his emotionalintelligence.Krishnaenlightenedhimby teachinghimtofocusonthepresent. Krishna Lesson2:Thereisalwaysacauseorreasons Krishnateaches usto live inthepresentmoment.Hewasconscious of the future but decided to live in the present moment without worrying. Eventhoughheknew what wouldhappenin thefuture, heremainedin

  3. thepresentmoment.Mindfulnessisaboutlivingin thepresentand being aware of the present moment. Mindfulness is life-changing and makesa differenceinthequality oflife.Livingin thepresentandpaying more attentionto the present momentcanimprove yourmentalwell- being. KrishnaLesson4:ControlYour Anger Anger affects yourabilityto make decisions and; inreturnmemory and intelligence.Withoutintelligence, theabilityto makedecisionsis affected. Therefore angeris therootcauseof allkindsof failuresin a person's life. One shouldtrytocontrol andremove angerwhile keeping themindcalm. Krishna Lesson 5:Sacrifice Krishna asked Bhima to summon Ghatotkacha (son of Bhima) to the battle of Kurukshetra.Thiswas nottowipeouttheKaurava armybutto forceKarnatouseIndrastra(a deadlydivineweapon)fromwhichno one can escape alive. So he ensured the victory of the Pandavas by sacrificing amightywarrior. Similarly,to get successin life,we haveto sacrifice manythings. There can be no significant progress or achievement without sacrifice. If you are not prepared to sacrifice yourcomfort zone, pride, ego, time, money,or security, youwill never beableto achieve your highestlevel ofsuccess.

  4. KrishnaLesson6:Humbleness ormodesty Even though Krishna was the king of the glorious Dwaraka and the god of all creation, he was humble and always had great respect for his elders - be it his parents or teachers. He was always eager to give them happiness.Becauseofthispeoplewerealwaysreadyto helphim whereverhewent. During the Kurukshetra war, Krishna played the role of a lowly charioteer. Shri Krishna was the avatar of simplicity and his role as the charioteerisatestimonytothesame.

  5. Beingpoliteorhumbleisoneofthemostimportantcharacteristics of personality.Like Krishna, youshouldalsobehumble inlife. Ithelpsyou buildgenuinerelationshipswithhonestpeople. KrishnaLesson7: No WorkIsToo Smallor Big Lord Krishna alone could have won the war of Kurukshetra. But he chose to guide Arjuna and drove his chariot for him. They say a job is a job;No workis smallorbig.Nolaboris withoutrespect.Youshould love your job and give your best during your job no matter how big or small it is. Your job fills a big part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfiedistorespectand acceptallkindsofjobs. ShriKrishna Lesson8: Thebest ortrue friend Sudamawasa childhood friendofKrishna.Unlike Krishna,he was an underprivileged person and his economic condition was not good. His family couldhardlymanage to arrange twomeals a day.Oncehe went tomeetShri Krishnainthehopeof somehelp or support. But,oncehe met Krishna, he did not have the courage or the heart to share his problems with his friend Krishna.WhenSudama returned to his home, he was astonished to see the luxurious house, beautiful clothes, and costly ornaments.Beinga true and honestfriend,Krishnaunderstood Sudama'sproblemswithoutsayingasingle wordtoSudamaabout Sudama'sproblems. Thisistherealmeaningoffriendship. Nowadays, itis well-established fact thatreal, genuine, and trustworthy friends are good for you. This life is about the people you share it with; make the most of it. Surround yourself with good friends and always be agoodfriendinreturn.

  6. KrishnaLesson9:Surrendertothe Lord All thistime,Shri Krishna wastellingArjunato do twothingsatonce- engage his mind in devotion, andhisbodyin fulfillinghis physicalduty as a warrior. Thus he wanted Arjuna not to give up his Kshatriya dharma, but to do bhakti along with it. This is the principle of Karma Yoga. Hare Krishna also ensures that even if Arjuna gives up all his materialactivities,he will not incursin.Shri KrishnatellsArjunanot to beafraid; Thiswill absolve himof all sins, and freehimfrommaterial existence. There aretwotypesof religions-materialistic religionsand spiritual religions.Thesetwo types ofreligionsare based ontwodifferent understandingsofthe"Self".When youidentify yourselfasthebody, your dharma is determined by your bodily responsibilities, duties, actions, and behavior. However, when you identifyyourself as a soul, youronlyreligionbecomeslovingdevotionalservicetotheLord. The father, mother, friend, beloved, andrestingplaceofthesoulisallGod. Hence the Lord asks us to detach from the materialistic body and recognizeourselvesasthesoul.
