  1. Basics of O-Ring

  2. With every passing year there is always advancement in technology in the manufacturing world. However, there are certain things that are still in use for years now and a classic example of that would be the O-ring. It was first patented way back in 1896. It is a loop that resembles the shape of a doughnut used to prevent liquids and gases from passing through it. It is used all over the world for sealing products and has stood the test of time. It is basically a gasket. The materials that an O-ring is made up of include plastic, metal and rubber. Find the different types of materials listed below: Fluoroelastomer – This material is used in applications that involve heat. O-rings of this material are long-lasting and resistant to heat. Silicone rubber – These O-rings are generally used in the food industry as they are non-toxic. Thermoplastic polyurethane – This material is resistant to degradation.

  3. Ethylene propylene diene monomer – This material is resistant to steam, moisture, grease and silicone. A classic example of the use of O-rings is in automotive engines. O-rings are used in preventing the oil from getting into the combustion chamber. It may be a rather simple component but it does its job really well. The O-rings work as a seal by preventing fluids from escaping from the gaps in the two mating hardware surfaces. Usually made out of rubber, these are soft and are mechanically plugged into the hole between two surfaces. O-ring is a loop that resembles the shape of a doughnut and is used for sealing products. It is made out of many different materials.
