  1. What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy & how does it Work? The use of cognitive Behavioural therapy is very common. It is used for many different scenarios due to its effectiveness. It can be part of helping someone control anger or to communicate better. It can be used to reduce anxiety or stress. It is also part of drug or alcohol rehabilitation programs. The focus of this type of therapy is to help the person see better options. Some behaviours are learned and others are the result of the environment around us. Often, the subconscious plays a role in the behaviours someone takes part in. This makes it harder to always pinpoint the underlying issues and triggers. Even so, the use of this type of therapy can help someone see new options they didn’t have information about before. Introduce Better Options With these new options, the patient feels in control. They don’t feel like life is just out of control all around them. While such therapy isn’t going to resolve everything, it gives someone the ability to make better choices that are reasonable for that situation. These new choices are designed to replace other behaviours that aren’t working well for that individual.

Selecting a Counsellor Cognitive behaviour therapy needs to be conducted in an environment where you feel welcome and comfortable. You need to be able to trust the counsellor to help you. They need to complete an assessment and then introduce new behaviours they feel can benefit you the most. You have to be willing to give them a try and then report back how you felt with them. Your counsellor may ask you to keep a journal of your feelings, triggers when you tried the new behaviours, and the outcome. They will review this information with you at future sessions so they can identify what is working well and what isn’t. As you see results with this type of therapy, you will be inclined to continue to try new concepts and benefit from them. The length of time the therapy will last depends on a patient’s needs.
