  2. Catabuses • Aluminum Paint • Aluminum Siding • Aluminum Box • TERRA Bottles Previous Ideas

  3. PSU consumes vast amounts of plastic bottles • Approximately 86% of plastic bottles aren’t recycled in USA • PSU recycles over 7.6 million water bottles every year - How many DON’T get recycled? 46.7 million? This creates huge environmental damage: • It takes 700 years before plastic bottles start to decompose • - 2,500,000 tons of a carbon dioxide waste per year • 151 billion litres of oil to produce per year • 272 billion litres of water a year to make empty bottles What’s the Problem?

  4. OUR MISSION: “To reduce waste on campus by providing students and faculty with cost effective, high quality aluminum bottles that lead to easier hydration, program incentives and, ultimately, a greener world.” Introducing: The TERRA Bottle

  5. Requires only 5 percent as much energy to recycle vs create new • Recycled repeatedly with little loss in quality.  Unlike aluminum , plastic…. • Chemical structure alterations during the recycling process cause many plastics become different types of products • Not 100% recyclable • Long-lasting Why Aluminum?

  6. Bulk Purchases = Reduced Price • Approx. $1.75 - $2.50 • Good publicity for manufacturer • Free Shipping often available • Custom colors and Printing • Bottles become iconic • Participating vendors can include logo • Cheap advertising = business incentive Purchase Cheap bottles Business Incentives Discounts off of drinks Pros FOR businesses Deals at PSU events “Buy one get one free” at games Collect: • Convenient collection centers Refund • After 4 years, trade in for cash back Recycle • Green • Cheaper (33% returned = $2,328 back) Set up signs/posters • Introduce, explain, and advertise the program • Name recognition Streamline into NSO Sell bottles at campus “hotspots” • HUB, Library, eating commons Sell bottles at athletic facilities & games • White Building, intramural building, Rec Hall Introducing Encourage Four Major Steps • goGREEN!

  7. PSU has already proved that it is willing to take action • Student-led initiative to stop plastic bottle waste • Complements our project VERY well • Have a TERRA Bottle  reason to refill • Refilling stations  Incentive for TERRA Bottle Implementation with 3E-COE Program:

  8. Benefits to Vendors • Public relations • Builds customer base • Promotes high-profit products • Odor resistance • Shock resistant • Superior insulation • Discounts at vendors • Promotions at PSU events • Extremely Inexpensive (especially if traded in) • Cool design • Shows environmental support Benefits to PSU • Public Relations • Educates students about sustainability • Inexpensive program Benefits to Students Benefits to ALL: Sustainable Living!
