  8. History of AI The history of AI began in Antiquity. In 1950, Alan Turing wrote a landmark paper, “Computing Machinery and Intelligence” that raised the question “Can machines think?” www.leewayhertz.com

  9. 1955: “Artificial Intelligence” is coined by John McCarthy in his first conference on the subject. 1961: Unimate, the first industrial robot, starts working on a General Motors assembly line. 1979: Stanford Cart developed an autonomous driving by crossing a chair-filled room without human intervention. 1986: Mercedes-Benz constructed in Munich developed the first driverless car, driving up to 80 km/h. 1990: In the use of the internet, Web crawlers and similar AI-based information extraction programs become fundamental. 1993: Vernor Vinge publishes “The Coming Technical Singularity”. He predicts that within 30 years superhuman and intelligence is possible and that shortly after the human era will end. 1997: IBM’s developed the first computer chess-playing program “Deep Blue” that beats the world chess champion. 2000: MIT builds Kismet, the first robot to recognize and simulate human emotions. www.leewayhertz.com
