  1. Scala “Is It the New Choice for Developers?” Scala as the name suggest is a scalable language that means it grows with its user’s growth. Scala is a highly functional and object oriented language. It was first of its kind which merged the benefits of a functional language with that of an object oriented language. This language was initially released in 2001 but Scala development was not much adopted that time due to lack of initiatives among the IT companies and Java’s strong market hold at that point of time. Martin Odersky the man who created Scala was having a vision of bringing object oriented and functional languages close but in initial attempt he failed badly as Scala development was not appreciated by users. Main reason being its initial complexity, slow compilation speed, less support for cross platform behavior and many more. But with new updates coming regularly it has gained space in industry. Started to make an impact But with changing time and thinking Scala has gained popularity among developers as well as companies. Big brands like LinkedIn, The Guardian, K Lout have opted for Scala for development of their Web Applications and web sites. Developers have started to divert toward Scala Development due to bigger bucks involved along with less work due to introduction of various Framework. Scala was initially developed as an extension to Java but it took time to get established in market.

  2. Versatile nature with wide range of Uses Scala is a programming language which is versatile in nature and provide multiple platform support. Ranging from GUI system applications to web application development it has a really wide area to cover. With introduction of various frameworks and integrated environment it has become a good choice especially in terms of web application development. Some most famous Scala Frame works include the likes of Play Frame work, Lift Frame work and Scalatra etc. Due to introduction of these frame works Scala Development has become much easier. These frame works provide integrated environment for development of web application. Scala development may have seen a boom in past few years with latest updates and more support coming but it still have to achieve a lot as the language don’t even feature in top 10-15 languages preferred in IT sector. Still far behind Java There is no doubt that Scala has gained popularity over time but it still need to gain a lot if they want to compete with java. The only plus that Scala was offering over java was its support for both functional as well as object oriented concept. But with the introduction of lambda equations in the latest java 8 release that advantage will also be eliminated. As Java is already more popular and much versed language it will be hard for Scala to match the level or even stand a chance for competition. But folks no one can predict future, so I too won’t be predicting anything. The only thing we can do is to wait and watch the show.
