Title one information Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 6301 et seq.) is amended to read as follows: TITLE I — IMPROVING THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF THE DISADVANTAGED The purpose of Title I under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments. A Title I school has qualified to receive federal funding under this act.

Implementation of title one funds • Educational Supplies for children • Personnel-the hiring of faculty to reduce teacher-to-student ratio • 1 full-time teacher • 1 Speech Therapist • 1 Reading Specialist • 2 paraprofessionals • Parent Involvement • Parent-Teacher Conferences • Annual Title Meetings with Educational Stakeholders • Independent Leveled Reading Kits

  4. Wps title I requirements: • Wanette Public School District is a “School-Wide” Title I school. In a school-wide Title I school, all students benefit from the available Title I resources.

How does WPS use Title I funds? • At WPS, Title I funds are used: • To obtain a high-quality education for all of our students. • To development an annual revision of our Parent and Family Engagement Policy. • To development an annual revision of our School-Parent compact. • To development an annual revision of the School Wide Plan. • To implement the goals of our mission statement

  6. Wps mission statement: • “Wanette will provide a positive learning environment and foster student potential so that all individuals become lifelong learners and responsible productive citizens.”

WPS School-wide goals: • To improve academic achievement • To teach students to choose success both in and out of the classroom • To promote a safe and orderly environment appropriate to productive learning • T increase parental involvement, community collaboration, and interscholastic partnerships • To employ and retain caring and quality faculty and staff members

How will we reach our goals? • By hiring talented, well-educated teachers who are dedicated to teaching WPS students in accordance with the Oklahoma Academic Standards • By collectively building a positive, family-oriented campus atmosphere • By supporting the hopes, dreams and goals of our students • By developing school-to-community events such as the Fall Festival, Community Pep Rally, and Awards Assemblies. • By hiring qualified, devoted, and caring paraprofessionals to reduce teacher/student ratio • By providing quality Professional Development for our teachers so they may stay at the very top of their game • By the use of Formative and Summative Assessments to gage each student’s progress • By providing small-group learning situations whenever appropriate

WPS curriculum programs: • Wanette Public Schools use the Oklahoma Academic Standards framework to teach Science, Social Studies, Math and English Language Arts to all students. • As a district, our curriculum is mapped in person, by your student’s teachers, in accordance with the OAS. • We use the newly purchased Vmath program to both teach and remediate 3rd through 8th grade Math students. • We use Storytimeto teach basic reading skills to students 2-4 grade, and Voyager to remediate those grades, as well.

Wanette public schools Benchmarking: • WPS benchmarks its students a minimum of three times per year. • We use “Big Day” for Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade Reading benchmarking. • We use easyCBM for Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade Math benchmarking, and for 3rd-8th grade Reading benchmarking. • We use the Vmath system to benchmark grades 3-8 in Math. • We use STAR and USAtestprep to benchmark 9-12th grades in all required subjects.

WPS and state testing: As we attempt to raise our teaching and learning standards to the nation level, the State of Oklahoma is upgrading its testing systems! • Parents and community members should become aware of the differences between the OCCT, which is the former testing system, and the OSTP, which is the new testing system. • The flyer, which was issued by Joy Hoffmiester, State Superintendent, was sent home with students in the last week of September. There are more copies available. • In accordance with new state law, WPS will be issuing the ACT to all Juniors in addition to a state-issued Science testinstead of multiple state tests throughout their student career. • Sophomores will be taking the Pre-Act on November 17th, 2017. Please make sure they are present.

The Wanette Public Schools School Board and Administration is dedicated to bringing in teachers who meet and surpass state standards. • Where can I find the WPS Student Handbook? The Student Handbook is available online, at wanetteschools.org • How might I access the WPS School Board Policy? The Board Policy is also available on our new school website, wanetteschools.org • How can I become more involved? You can read to and with your student every night, volunteer for field trips, and participate in fundraisers and community outreach events. • I would like to have my opinion heard. How do I do that? Parents are welcome to run for the school board, attend parent/teacher conferences, and participate in the Title I surveys that are issued in the fall and spring.
