  1. Nile RiverEnvironmental

  2. Being a region that is urban, the Nile river has a share of industries, and with that industrial pollution. There are approximately 700 industrial facilities along the river.Industrial wastewater is often highly toxic, containing heavy metals that can combine with the suspended solids in domestic wastewater to form hard to manage sludge.

  3. Besides water pollution, industry has been linked to air pollution, and is responsible for much of the smog cloaking major cities such as Cairo and Alexandria • Nile river is certainly a large concern because of the pollution, it should be identified that much of the river water is acceptably healthy and free of toxins. It is only in “black zones” near major drains that the water becomes unhealthy. Still, future measures should certainly be sought out to solve this problem before it does develop into a crisis. Agricultural Pollutants • Runoff from the agricultural sector frequently contains pollutants that may have an adverse effect on the river. • Pollutants such as salts, nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen, and pesticide residue can be found in this runoff

  4. Municipal Pollutants • The water that goes down the drains in Cairo goes through various treatment processes to make it as healthy as possible before it is released back into nature. • Treating the water keeps the by-products of everyday human water use from negatively affecting the environment it eventually winds up in. • However, the treatment facilities are expensive. • The water that the people living here use can only be dumped into the river untreated • Human Wastewater is largely comprised of pathogens, nutrients, oxygen demanding compounds, and suspended solids. • Diseases and parasites make the wastewater in the Nile are increasing. • Oxygen demanding compounds are also contained in the river, which leech the oxygen from the water. • Which is lethal because it has consequences on the living organisms in the water that need oxygen for their natural processes.

  5. Congo River • Polluted runoff, also referred to as non-point source pollution, is derived from soil erosion and municipal wastes.* Travel on the Congo - there aren't many roads in Zaire, so most of the traveling is done on the Congo River.Actually the Congo River is Africa's main navigational system.Barges carrying fuel, wood, minerals, and agricultural produce are common sights on the Congo River. They carry loads of 800 to 1100 tons and travel an average distance of 650 miles.

  6. It is without saying that these barges do pollute the Congo River, first from the gas guzzling barges, and second, from materials falling into the river off the barges. The pollution does accumulate; still the river remains relatively clean compared to countries which still dump their combined sewage, chemical wastes, and other hazardous materials in their rivers.Because the river flows for the most part near the Equator, the area around it is very hot.

  7. Much of the land surrounding the river is tropical rain forest and is home to hundreds of kinds of animals, including hippos, manatees, water snakes, crocodiles, tortoises, pigs, elephants, and 200 species of fish. In addition, insects such as mosquitoes and gnats are prevalent in the hot, humid conditions.
