WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF SUSTAINABLE TOURISM? • While developing the tourism the main purpose of Sustainable Tourism is to gurantee its long-term sustainability by considering the environmental, economic and socio-cultural factors and their well balanced running. 80.   6. Tourism activities carried out in Turkey have gained importance and developed especially in the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts. 80. YIL CUMHURİYET LİSESİ Çankırı / TURKEY

  7. In addition to archaeological and cultural richness Turkey has got great richness in terms of its natural values.   8. In Turkey there are some different types of projects supported by the Ministry of Tourism to protect the natural life and the sustainable environment 80. YIL CUMHURİYET LİSESİ Çankırı / TURKEY

  9. Project ATAK • It is a project started in 1989 and includes the towns and villages in the Aegean and Mediterranean nearly 2000 km coastline. The project at first was designed to make better the deficiencies with the infrastructure but then it was defined as the new coastal management methods.   10. Project Blue Flag: • In order to monitor the general environmental standards with adequate water quality services of beaches and marinas Turkey is a part of the international "Blue Flag” project. 80. YIL CUMHURİYET LİSESİ Çankırı / TURKEY

  11. Belek Management Plan • Belek Management Plan which was established on the initiative of international organizations (the World Conservation Union, World Bank) in 1996, aims to protect and develop the natural and cultural environment. 80. YIL CUMHURİYET LİSESİ Çankırı / TURKEY

Project Highland & VillageTourism: • It was started from the Eastern Black Sea, Mediterranean (Taurus highlands) plateaus but today many of the activities within this project are spreaded all around the country. • In this project up to date 26 highlands has been declared as “Highland Tourism Centers" 80. Trekking in the Nature Project: • With in the scope of this project and in the Tourism phenomenon the whole natural and environmental potential is taken into consideration with a detailed planned approach. • Thus it is aimed to enrich the tourism types and activities, to develop the supply capacity, to bring into service and to introduce the different and new alternative tourism areas and to benefit the different areas from the economic and social contribution of the Sustainable Tourism. 80. River Tourism(Canoeing-Rafting) Project: • A significant part of streaming inTurkey, especially River Çoruh, River Fırat, Manavgat-Alara-Dim-Göksu and etc. are very convenient for canoeing and water skiing. • And day by day both the number of the tourists in this tourism and the importance given to this area by the Ministry of Tourism is increasing 80. Bicycle Tour RoutesDevelopment Project: • In addition to tourism activities such as trekking, rafting, etc. as a requirement of our policy of diversification and handled with a soft approach to tourism bicycle tours as an attractive outdoor sports has drew more and more interest. 80. Cave Tourism Project : • In terms of Tourism diversity cave tourism in our country has a considerable potential. • Karstification which is an important attribute in terms of cave formation especially have led to the formation of hundreds of large and small caves in the regions of Taurus, Central Anatolia, Southeastern Anatolia, Thrace and Northwestern Anatolia. • In the past the caves were only subject for the scientific and sportive activities but today this has changed and with some arrangement in and around the caves they have been presented to the service of alternative Tourism. 80. Sporting Fishing: • Sporting, recreational and animatif activities meet the needs in this direction and extend the period of stay thus as the activities of increasing the contribution of tourism has a great importance in terms of our country. • However, according to the research results, the length of stay of tourists coming to Turkey is lower than the other Mediterranean countries and this is attributed to limited recreational activities in our country. 80. Bird Observation(Ornithology): • Perhaps the most important bridge used in the migration of birds especialy among the continents from north to south,south to north,west to east,east to west directions is in Turkey. • Turkey became a party to the RAMSAR Convention and there are many RAMSAR sites(wet lands) which have international importance and where many types of birds are wintering and propogating. 80.   30. Botany (Plant Inspection) Tourism: • Turkey has very rich flora. In addition to many european countries it is also very rich among the neighboring countries. • The number of plant species in the whole of Europe is about 12 000 but this number for only Turkey is around 9 000. 80.
