About AUVSI • Formed in 1972, AUVSI is the world’s oldest and largest non-profit organization devoted exclusively to unmanned systems. • Started post-Vietnam in Dayton, Ohio, as the National Association for Remotely Piloted Vehicles • Organization consists of a 23-member Board of Directors who are elected by the full membership • Board makes strategic decisions of the organization • Full-time staff of 11 run the operations and activities of AUVSI • The mission of AUVSI is to promote and support the unmanned systems community through communication, education and leadership. “Providing Services to Members Worldwide”

AUVSI – Strength in Numbers • Current membership of more than 5,000 individuals worldwide, representing nearly 1,500 organizations and 50 countries • Diverse members from industry, government, academia • Database of more than 12,000 highly-qualified unmanned systems industry individuals “Providing Services to Members Worldwide”

Three Segments of the Unmanned Systems Industry • Defense Market • The defense market is finally maturing • Still a fledgling market • Trendy and Sexy • Civil Market • Quickly emerging • Domestic Security and Law Enforcement are the leaders • Will also include other governmental agency uses • Commercial Market • Just beginning to percolate • Will ultimately dwarf the other two segments “Providing Services to Members Worldwide”

AUVSI Student Competitions • Originated in 1990 with a UAV Competition • Now includes 4 separate “mission-oriented” events • 2 air vehicle-oriented events • 1 ground vehicle-oriented event • 1 underwater vehicle-oriented event • Approximately 80 schools competed in 2005 events • Teams must design, build and deploy fully autonomous vehicles to complete a real-world task • Introduce students to the unmanned systems world and, hopefully, career opportunities • Nearly $400,000 awarded in prize money to date “Providing Services to Members Worldwide”

AUVSI Institute • Recently established to better develop AUVSI’s professional, technical and educational services • Institute functions will include • Collection of industry knowledge and resources • Professional development courses • Educational workshops • Interactive forum to facilitate member dialogue • Market studies and research “Providing Services to Members Worldwide”

AUVSI’s Strategic Goals • GOAL 1 – Inclusive Community - AUVSI will be an inclusive and accessible global organization encompassing the unmanned community. • GOAL 2 – Global Focus - AUVSI will be an essential partner in the growth and reach of the global unmanned systems community. • GOAL 3 – Education and Outreach - AUVSI will facilitate the extension of unmanned systems knowledge and promotion of education opportunities. • GOAL 4 - Knowledge Source - AUVSI will be the best unmanned systems knowledge source. • Goal 5 - Advocacy and Influence - There will be recognition of AUVSI by government and industry as a powerful advocate for unmanned systems. “Providing Services to Members Worldwide”

AUVSI’s 2007-2008 Priorities • Establish a strong advocacy role • Better support existing Chapters and Member Groups • Financial support, admin and staff support, web-based support • Establish “Regions” to better support diverse geographic member needs • Europe, Australia and Canada initially • Provide increased support to our government customers worldwide • Seek out new civil and commercial markets for unmanned systems “Providing Services to Members Worldwide”
