  2. Overview of Anaphylaxis What is Anaphylaxis? A life-threatening allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) can cause shock, a sudden drop in blood pressure, and difficulty breathing. In people who have an allergy, anaphylaxis can occur minutes after exposure to a specific allergy-causing substance (allergen). In some cases, there may be a delayed reaction or anaphylaxis may occur without an apparent trigger. Anaphylaxis is an acute and sometimes fatal multisystem reaction triggered by the release of chemical mediators from mast cells and basophils.

Experience within minutes, severe symptoms including:- • Swelling that can cause difficulty swallowing or breathing. • Shortness of breath. • Hives. • Difficulty swallowing. • Red rash. • Stomach ache. • Tightness in the chest. • Convulsions. • Diarrhea. • A sense of despair or fear. • Vomit. • Gasping.

  4. Anaphylaxis- Causes Common causes of anaphylaxis include:- • Medication • Peanuts • Tree nuts • Insect stings • Fish, shellfish • Milk • Other causes may include:- • Exercise • Latex

  5. Anaphylaxis- Take Action If anyone has an allergic reaction with signs of anaphylaxis. 1. Call the nearest medical emergency number immediately. 2. Ask the person if they have an epinephrine autoinjector (epipen, twinject, etc.) to treat allergy attacks. 3. If the person says they need to use an auto-injector, ask if you can help them inject the medicine. This is usually done by pressing an auto-injector against the person's thigh. 4. Have them lie still on their back. 5. Loosen tight clothing and cover yourself with a blanket. Do not provide the person with any beverages. 6. If there is vomiting or bleeding from the mouth, turn the person on their side to prevent choking.

  6. Anaphylaxis - Triggers Anaphylaxis can be triggered by:- • Swelling in the nose, throat, eyes or mouth. • Airway constriction results in wheezing or difficulty breathing. • Low and fast pulse. • Nausea or vomiting. • Diarrhea or Dizziness, passing out or unconsciousness.

  7. Anaphylaxis - Other Considerations Other Things to Know About Anaphylaxis If you have a history of severe allergic reactions, ask your doctor whether you should be given an Epinephrine Autoinjector to take with you.

Anaphylaxis - When To Call A Doctor See Your Doctor If:- If you've got bruises that are really big or painful, especially if they seem to be popping up for no reason, it's important to get them taken care of as soon as possible. If you have an allergic reaction and you have epinephrine in your car, you should get it in as soon as you can. Even if your symptoms get better after you get the shot, you should still go to the ER to make sure you don't get sick again, even if you don't have any more contact with the allergen at the time of the reaction.
