  1. CD Genomics Expands Resource Articles for 16S/18S/ITS Amplicon Sequencing In this September, CD Genomics, a US-based next generation sequencing company expands its resource articles for 16S/18S/ITS amplicon sequencing. As well known, amplicon sequencing is generally applied to identify and differentiate microbial species. Short (usually small than 500 bp in length) hypervariable regions of conserved genes or intergenic regions are amplified by PCR, then analyzed with NGS technology, and then the resulting sequences are compared against microbial databases to obtain results of interest. While for bacteria and archaea, the 16S rRNA gene is the most common target for amplicon sequencing. For fungi, three targets are generally included: the 18S rRNA gene, and two internal transcribed spacers (ITS) located between rRNA genes. These regions are usually sufficiently divergent to separate even highly related species, and can sometimes differentiate subspecies. “For commercially available 16s rRNA sequencing services, the workflow usually covers DNA extraction, library preparation, sequencing and bioinformatics analysis. Each step requires specific requirements. To facilitate researchers and save their time, we compiled several resource articles, including 16S/18S/ITS Amplicon Sequencing, Data Analysis of 16S/18S/ITS Amplicon Sequencing Results, 16S/18S/ITS Amplicon Sequencing FAQ and Case Study. In addition to technical articles, there are newly added blog articles, such as Why Do We Perform 16S rRNA Sequencing and 18S rRNA and Its Use in Fungal Diversity Analysis” Said by scientists of CD Genomics. Sequence comparison of 16S/18S/ITS regions is extensively applied in taxonomy and molecular phylogeny due to its features in easy amplicon by PCR, even from small amount of DNA, as well as a high degree of variation even between closely related species. About 16S/18S/ITS amplicon sequencing 16S/18S/ITS amplicon sequencing is a well-established method for microbial identification and phylogeny studies of environmental or microbiome samples.

  2. 16S rRNAsequencing is used for bacterial and arechea identification, whereas 18S rRNA and ITS (Internal Transcribed Spacer) amplicon sequencing is used for the identification of fungi. About CD Genomics As a leading provider of NGS services and a partner of Illumina, CD Genomics offers a portfolio of solutions for metagenomics sequencing. 16S/18S/ITS amplicon sequencing is characterized by cost-efficiency, high-speed and practicability to help you identify and investigate the microbial community. With over 10 years of experience, we can totally meet your project requirements and budgets in the exploration of microbial biodiversity.
