A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge • Project management is a technique for making sure that products are meeting the customer requirements, that the team is on schedule, and that the budget is not getting out of control. • Project Management is the practice of managing an objective or a task that needs to be accomplished within a specific time frame. • PMP (Project Management Professional) is a certification offered by Project Management Institute. This certification is made for project managers and project team members. ThePMP examis a must for becoming successful project managers. • ThePMP certification trainingor Project Management Professional training cum certification is the mark of a person who has achieved solid theoretical grounding in the basic principles of project management and has acquired substantial, hands-on experience in the application of these principles to project management. The 10 Project Management Knowledge Areas The Project Management Knowledge Areas are essential in order to completely comprehend project management. These areas consist of a complete and systematic approach to project management.

  2. A project manager needs to understand ten knowledge areas: 1. Business Environment 2. Project Management Processes 3. Project Management Tools And Techniques 4. Project Management Systems 5. Human Resources And Project Management 6. Communications 7. Risk Management 8. Procurement And Contracting 9. And Change Management 10. Scope And Deliverables • Other areas include cost and funding schedule, team skills, communication and collaboration, quality, risk and issues, procurement, human resource and ethics, change management, and process improvement. • Project Management Professional (PMP) is knowledge-intensive, that is to say, that knowledge is a major input. The PMBOK recognizes four knowledge management areas as inputs to project management, namely, Project Integration Management, Project Scope Management, Project Time Management, and Project Cost Management. • In addition, the Project Human Resource Management knowledge area is considered an input to Project Management as well as a Project Output (that is, Project Management itself). • The Project Communications Management knowledge area is considered an input to the Project Output but not to the Project Management knowledge area. • There is no knowledge area pertaining to project risk management because risk management is an integral part of all processes and activities. The PMBOK Guide lists fourteen knowledge areas in all, including the six project management knowledge areas.
