  1. P. Brian Fisher CofC: POLS 405 Spring 2011 Class15: Climate Skepticism and Lomborg

  2. Lomborg, Cool It! Polar bear story tells us: • 1. we hear vastly emotional and exaggerated claims about climate change (not supported by data) • 2. Only hear about the troubled species, and some will actually do better • 3. Our concern forces us to focus on the wrong solutions.

  3. Lomborg’s main arguments • 1. Global warming is real and human induced • 2. Statements about the strong, ominous and immediate consequences of global warming are often exaggerated. • 3. We need simpler, smarter, and more efficient solutions rather than excessive well intentioned efforts • E.g. large and expensive CO2 cuts made now will only have a marginal and insignificant impact into the future. • 4. Many other issues are much more important than global warming • Hunger, poverty and disease. • 5. We can help more people by addressing these things at a lower cost and higher success than by pursuing drastic climate policies that cost trillions of dollars.

  4. Vid • Lomborg, “Our Priorities For Saving the World” (17m)
