  2. BitLocker Encryption BitLocker Drive Encryption helps prevent unauthorized access to any files stored on your computer. You are able to use the computer normally, but unauthorized users cannot read or use your files. When BitLocker is enabled, the C: drive will display with a lock to the left of the Icon. You will not have access to the computer without supplying a key when the computer is turned on. This key will be placed on a USB flash drive that you will be given when BitLocker is installed on your computer.

  3. Using BitLocker • Plug the flash drive into your computer • Turn on the computer • When the Windows Logo appears on the screen you may unplug the flash drive After you have logged onto your computer for the first time, you should save the key to another blank flash drive and print a copy of the key to store in a safe place.

  4. Creating Backups of the BitLocker Key 1. Click on the Start Menu Icon 3. Click on Manage BitLocker 2. Type, bitlocker

  6. You can click on Save or Print Recovery Key again to obtain a printed copy of the key Click on Duplicate the Startup Key and Insert a flash drive to create a backup of your key You now have two backups of your key

Typing in your KeyIf your BitLocker key is not available, you need to type in the key • Start the computer • Press the enter key • Type in your Recovery key Note: When you type in the key, the computer will take longer to boot If you do not have access to your key, you can call IT support to obtain your key.
