  1. Australia Booklet Directions

  2. Preparation of Booklet • Materials: construction paper (2 pieces), notebook paper (3 or 4 pieces) • Staple together • Cut out your map. Use it to trace two other maps. You will need 3 maps. • Glue or tape your first map in. • Label the first two maps, “Political” and “Physical” • Put your name on your booklet.

  3. Political Map • Step One: Using the atlas, label these cities found in Australia: • Sydney • Perth • Melbourne • Alice Springs • Canberra • Step Two: Label and color the states and territories of Australia. StatesTerritories New South Wales Northern Territory Queensland Australian Capital Territory (ACT) South Australia Tasmania Victoria Western Australia

Physical Map • Step One: Using the atlas, label these features found in Australia: • Great Barrier Reef • Ayers Rock (Uluru) • Great Victoria Desert • Coral Sea • Outback • Great Dividing Range • Pacific Ocean • Indian Ocean • Step Two: Include a visual of the Great Barrier Reef, Ayers Rock, Great Victoria Desert, and the Coral Sea. • Step Three: Color the map.

  5. Your Choice • Use the atlas and choose to create a map of one of the following: • Population • Rainfall • Growing Season • Deep Barrier • Elevation • Land Use • Be sure to use the legend/key from the atlas as your legend/key. • Include the appropriate symbols on your map. • Include the appropriate title on your map.

  6. Your Extra Page • Information or pictures (with captions) of your choice. What interesting things about Australia can you find? Put it in your book!
