  2. Essential Skills Survey Results Overall Youth Advisory Team (YAT) Survey • 22 respondents • Represents • students On Line Survey • 510 respondents • ALL Stakeholder groups • ALL Oregon regions • 67% of the respondents indicated they were in PK-12 Education

  3. Essential Skills Response Overall response is clearly in favor of the presented list of Essential Skills ranking them all ABOVE 7.5 on a scale of 1- 10 Personal Management/Teamwork averaged 8.66- placing it as 5th, higher than "apply math"

Essential Skills are embedded in current content standards EXAMPLE  Essential Skill: Write clearly and accurately ELA standards that support this Essential Skill: HIGH SCHOOL EL.CM.WR.10 Establish a coherent and clearly supported thesis that engages the reader, conveys a clear and distinctive perspective on the subject, maintains a consistent tone and focus throughout the piece of writing, and ends with a well supported conclusion GRADE 8 EL.08.WR.10 Create compositions that engage the reader, have a clear message, a coherent thesis, and end with a clear and well-supported conclusion. GRADE 5 EL.05.WR.10 Write for different purposes and to a specific audience or person, adjusting tone and style as appropriate. • POTENTIAL ASSESSMENTS • OAKS Writing Performance Assessment • Writing Work Samples scored locally with Writing Scoring Guide • Other assessments that meet established criteria

DRAFT Assessment Framework for Essential Skills ~to be reviewed by State Board in March • Ensure opportunities to learn • Local performance assessments grades 3-8 and high school required, embedded into instruction, use Official State Scoring Guides or comparable measures • Build on existing systems • Assessments • Use OAKS to the extent appropriate • Expertise • Establish an Assessment of Essential Skills Review Panel(AESRP) • Additional (multiple) pathways • Other assessments eligible as approved by AERSP (e.g. local performance assessment, AP, ACT, SAT etc.)
