  5. VEGETABLE AND FRUIT AGRICULTURE Bulgaria has a strong tradition in production and processing ofvegetable and fruit. Altogether, in this sub-sector there are 209 processing plants of which 147 ones are newly established. Major products are: canned vegetables, peppers, fruit products, juices, fresh and dried mushrooms, herbs.

  6. DAIRY PRODUCTS Bulgaria is well-known producer of dairy products from sheep, cow and goat milk. There are 495 operating dairy factories of which 450 newly established. Famous types of cheese produced in Bulgaria are Kashkaval and Feta (produced through ultra-filtration).

  7. MEAT PRODUCTION All conditions for production of quality meat production in Bulgaria are present . There are traditions in the sheep, pig and cattle breeding, poultry farming, and bee-keeping.

  8. WINE PRODUCTION Bulgaria has been a major wine producer for many years and currently a number of modern wineries export their products all over the world. There are 56 companies operating in this sub-sector and 12 of them newly established.

Bulgaria’s Agriculture Sector • Arable land – 29.21% of land aria • Cereal production - 66 thousand metric tons • Crop production index –125.4% • Fertilizer use – 31.4 kg • Food production index - 107.7 % • Labor share – 6.6% • Meat production - 470 thousand metric tons • Organic cropland - 500 hectares

  11. Animal breeding income • from cattle breeding grew by 36.5% • from eggs – by 10.2% • from sheep – 2.5% • from goats – by 2.5%
